Decoying Magpies

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

relatively new to this forum. Must say that here is some really good reading/vids/pic's on here

I am very interested to learn decoying tactics and have read load of threads on here - I can't wait to get out into the field to try some.

I haven't seen a lot about decoying Magpie's - Can anyone shed some light on the subject for a complete decoying novice?

There a bugger to decoy!! Id say Les'es tactics are about as good as it gets for decoyin them. If you can find a roost you can make a good bag in the evenings when there not nesting. You used to be able to get a wee green electronic box call. done magpies fox call and crows too i think. They were lethal on mags at roost time. Ps if anyone readin this has one of these calls pm me! Stick a crow decoy out and watch the maggies mob it, Make a nest shape out of straw or anything lying about and put two hen eggs in it break one open slightly they'll come for it, as you probably know Maggie's cause allot of damage to game bird nests robbing the eggs, try it t works: Dave
