Rats!

They have got under the shed, I spotted them the other afternoon running from under the shed along the beam and across to the chickens pen to steal the corn... I have a mk4 springer set in my nice little tunnel, which has caught to date 1 rat :icon_redface: , the springer didnt fit on the beam so i raked out the little snap-e-trap...

The trap in place...

Anyone feed rats to their dogs?

My Grandad used too feed his Ferrets on rats and god knows what else. Probably fed his dogs on them too :thumbs-up: I believe that he tried to feed badger once aswell to his terriers (back 60+ years ago ;)) but they wouldnt have any of it, cant say I balme them

Brian Plummer talks about feeding rays to Ferrets alot, not sure about dogs though.

Had this discussion on our board...

The majority opinion was that it was very unsafe to feed wild rats to your dogs because of the risk of disease (Weils most significantly)

But I've seen pics and read tales of the terrier folk hunting rats.. wondered if they went into the food chain or the bin/incinerator.

Sorry, forgot to add..

Had a quick chat with one of our friends about badger as dog food too.

she'd seen some very fresh roadkill (badger, looked to be an adult male) and wondered if it could be used.

I wasn't sure, my feeling was that it would probably be ok to add to the diet though... but we all agreed that hacking it into pieces would be more than any of us were prepared to do in order to find out

I know what you meen, I couldnt fancy fecking about with dead Badgers or Rats. But obviously my Grandad had no choice, there wasnt any dried foods or ready foods around back then. Ive started feeding raw food recently, but no way am I feeding rats

Not sure about feeding Rats, but when Terriers are Ratting the Rats very often get ripped up and pulled apart, so you would think if there is any danger they would catch it :hmm:

I bet Ditch Shiiter knows about this :D

I wouldn't fancy feeding them to my dogs or ferrets... especially not these ones, as they have fed on all kinds of horrible food and been in contact with someprettyhorrible substances... but i'd be more willing to feed "country" rats that had fed on corn and grain to my ferrets....
