Dan McDonough 560
I could post a picture but just looking at it wouldn't help much. I know of a plott hound that has a coat that is just phenomial for protection. It feels like negro hair...like some sort of armour. Now, I would expect the dog not to have an undercoat but it does and it's a good one at that. The guard hairs are hard as hell but are not loose like a wire haired dogs coat normally is. The guard hairs are tight and hold close to the body. The whole thing is like a shell and is fantastically protective. I've not seen this kind of coat on any other dog I can ever remember seeing. I used to train bird dogs at a hunt club and have seen nearly every breed in the US. I've been hunting coyotes, coon, bobcat, fox, bear and anything else that will run or take to a tree with terriers, fox hound types, tree hounds and curs with some experience with sighthounds and lurchers also. Where does it come from??? Quote Link to post

matt1979 766
Not sure if its the same, but the bouvier has a similar sounding double coat, which is harsh and slightly curled outer coat with a really tight short waterprorof undercoat, hope this helps. Quote Link to post

bigredhelmet 17
welsh hound blood, terrier blood, its impossible to say mate, those plotts were a mix em up hound breed right? If its un common in the breed it could be from way the fu*k back in the breeds early history, Wherever it came from it sounds great, wish my dogs all had jackets like it. helmet Quote Link to post
