robwelsh 354
Have anyone had any luck as there's a place near by ridden with them, lakes an a cafe for summer time, an its only a small place..you can walk through at night and its out the way..someone else, stealthy I think mentioned an posted pics up of a similar place..the only problem is is that people can walk through at all hrs, but believe me, for a small place its hundreds of rabbits there's and there diggin up everywhere, where kids play on the grass etc..anyone think there's much chance of me getting a lamping perm there, as like I said its pretty busy in the day, and there are gates but a walk through bit..I was thinking of asking ,maybe get some signs up? Any info welcome Quote Link to post
porkycrook 466
I have a hugh plot of land that is council owned and maintained by them and when i approached them about it, rabbits doing no end of damage. People could trip or fall on their land and we could then have a claim for damages. I also pointed out that i have £10 mill insurance. None of this or these points melted the ice cold responce i got. NO not on council land. Don't know if its country wide or down to individual councils. Sorry i couldn't bring better news. ATVB Roger Quote Link to post
open season 21
Hi bud i dont think mate you have much chance with the council they are a right funny bunch soon as you mention airguns bud youve shot your self in the foot they seem to take an instant dislike to them and see them as irresponsible and an imediate threat to the public they also see this as a huge law suit if they was to grant you permission and some one complained. i have heard of some one being in big trouble with the council just because he had an airgun out in his council house garden. i think bud you best just dream of those rabbits in the pot. i know i have on some council land i know off riddled with bunnys Quote Link to post
Elliott 436
I think you'll find its a political thing, our Local Authority doesn't allow balloon launches at events on the off chance that it might upset the 'Green Party' never mind shooting on Council land! If they thought it was a problem they would have their own Pest Control officers sort it out Quote Link to post
StevoSmith 147
The council will on occasion let people shoot over thier land however this depends where it is situated and what use the land has for joe public(ie=playing field, allotment)again it is down to the council...Im sure on allotments if there are pest speices(rabbits, pigeon and rats)they are by law required to remove them due to damage they cause...A quick call to DEFRA will clear this up...i know some lads here shoot the vermin on allotments...my allotment is over run with bunnies but the council will not let us shoot them....someone made a call to DEFRA and now instead of letting a resposible shooter cure the problem they now want to spend 30-40k on fencing to stop them...bloody waste of tax payers money in my eyes Quote Link to post
billy whizz 141
theres a place like that near me holes and diggs all over the place its not big area around half mile to a mile round but theres tons of bunnys was thinking the same about asking ive seen a few lads sniffing about up there with a dog now and again. council are strange people lol ATB with it mate;) Quote Link to post
AR177 588
Ask them and see - as soon as you mention shooting they will drop their fuzzy sacks so try and be tactful 'rabbit control programme' sounds better than 'im going to blast bunnys with my airgun' ATB Adam Edit: I have a shooting permission through a shooting club which is MOD owned. there are alot of walkers / rights of way - we have to put signs up saying we are out shooting maybe a similar thing could be done? NIckinSurrey 6
I teach and my (state) school has a guy come in to shoot the pigeons that make such a mess about the place that they cause hygiene problems - one place they roost is directly above a kids' drinking fountain. He approached the site manager and asked. As I am very new to this, I wasn't in a position to do it at the time so good luck to him - I shall ask for some advice but not try to upset his permission as I am at the school for long enough anyhow without turning out early at weekends too. My advice would be to find out who has responsibility for the local management, approach them directly and explain how you will make their job easier without it costing them anything. robwelsh 354
Just what I wanted to see lads ,lol I thought as much. Even in the carpark bit where they have grass islands theirs holes, scratchins and shit everywhere. I would take pics of it all ,but my phone won't allow me to upload from photobucket to here..and I meen pics of its layout ,not some rabbit shit lol Quote Link to post
open season 21
Well bud looking at your post you may have a good fight to get your permission mate and remove the pest you have twisted your ankle in the dreaded rabbit diggins bud not good for the general public possible case for the courts in the eyes of a well trained solicitor, danger to the general public maybe not so servier mate in those words but worth a try aproaching them with something on those lines and your prepaired to remove the rabbit problem for them during unsociable hours for the public but not us rabbit hunters bud increase the words your fully insured and prepaired to remove the potential threat to court procedings from joe bloggs this might be a bit strong mate but worth a try you cant get on it now mate so you have nothing to looooooose Quote Link to post
NIckinSurrey 6
M'learned Friends could get a lot of business out of this. Not entirely seriously here but you could sue the council for the twisted ankle if they have failed in their duty of care by not taking appropriate action to resolve the rabbit problem. You would have to show they have responsibility for the upkeep of the land, that they were made aware of the problem and that you have suffered pain and loss whilst exercising your right of access. Appropriate settlement would be granting you permission over council land. ....have you had an accident that isn't your fault? Nick Quote Link to post
robwelsh 354
Lol I see what you meen..I don't care about a twisted ankle, or if anyone else twists an ankle tbh lol just its a small bit of land, oozing with bunnies ..right down the far end there is a sign "no shooting or motorcycles" but that's to anyone in theory, if I got granted permission with insurance at my side, I can't see anything wrong with abit of lamping..even if I could only go say 1am till 4 am sort of thing, like they do with golf courses ..a time limit permission,if you get me lads, its worth a pop ..may aswell write or ring directly too the council, rather than point it out to someone who works there or it could be nabbed by someone's nephew lol atb ,thanks for the input Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
The council isnt responsible for the actions of a wild animals on un-surfaced areas , no case to be answered if someone twists their ankle , beleive me if there was there would be an absence of rabbits. Permission is possible from local authorities , but its usually put out to tender for regional pest control , I doubt you would get one off permission for one small area. Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Highly unlikely that any council will grant permission in a public place as they all have their own pest control departments or they have contracts with people like Cannon and Rentokil. Tony Quote Link to post
