Is the (Non-Ped) Whippet a Lurcher ?

Recommended Posts

I'm playing "devils advocate" lads ! LOL ! I don't think that Non-Peds and unregistered Greyhounds should race against Lurchers at the shows, If they want all - out race dogs, they should run them on the track, out of traps !

Cheers.

spot on, i used to have none ped whippet bitch, little 20lb thing .She was great at rabbits as well great in the lamp. I raced Bryn sat at the show, 1st time ive tried him.Ididnt think he would run after a bit of rag, as he never done it before. But feck me he done very well got a 3rd in his over 23in, and came 2nd the last race against big+small dogs . He is very quick for a 1x collie xgrey as ive always said he dont miss much, but that little bitch that i had would just blown him away dead easy  .I love none ped whippets great dogs, but for old cold+wet nights dont think you will beat dogs like Bryn

Early 80,s i used to tag along with a lad to the rag racing around Barnsley,he ended up with a pup that made 22" and weighed about 35lb,basically a whippet/Grey mix,the dog was a bunny slayer and nobbled an hare or 2,good nose and worked all day.The breeding would be classed today as a working whippet type, non KC,then it was classed as a racing type whippet. Now it would possibly be a lurcher.Depends who,s kennel its in,i suppose.

I've said it once, and i'll say it again, the lady said, smooth coated dog, under 23 ", and well . . . . .. he's a dog, he's smooth coated and he's under 23". Some folk just can't handle the competition :D

The owner of Bilko said he would have loved to put him over a Saluki, But back then Salukis were fairly rare and the people who owned them wouldn't have dreamed of cross breeding them ! But if the cross HAD of come off, todays Non-Peds may just have had a bit more stamina in them.

Cheers.

i think here in scotland we are abit more relaxed about non peds ,,racing against lurchers ,,,from what iam seeing over the last few year, possibly is because there,s not many here in scotland that race at lurcher racing

when kirkcaldy show on , a couple will enter, and lurcher guys are cool about , maybe its because scottish are more relaxed or they know they wont race against them again the rest off year ,,,or some off the younger lurcher guys love idea to have chance off racing them once and a blue moon ,,to see how there dogs fair ?????

most non peds owners wont race with lurcher,s guys,,,but when they do there never a bad word

but i get the vibe its alot diffrent down south,,with big prize money at some events ,,and the fact some havent even seen a bunny ,,,i do think somtimes thats the non peds down fall ,,some owners wrapp them up in cotton wool too much,,,but there not the only breed that does,,alot off show lurchers are and ped whippets,,some never get chase on anything with a heart beat lol

:hmm:Hi Ideation,..good to hear your words...

In my opinion,..there is no such thing as a 'working lurcher show'....

And personally, if any dog that had undergone a few seasons mouching, net guarding, pheasant pegging or deer pulling, still wanted to chase a 'Fairy Liquid ' bottle dragged along a race track, amidst a bunch of screaming , half wit jukels, well, I would feel a tad disappointed ... :icon_eek:

But, each to their fecking own....

100% agree there chalky  Cheers Atb
