Horseshoe shape a big M shape works best with the wind on your back the main thing is roughly have the deeks facing the wind

Depends what the wind is doing but a good pattern to try is wind on your back walk out 25 yards put your magnet in walk ten yards left put half your decoys in a rough group at least a couple of yards apart, do the same thing on the right, sit back and as soon as you get the coffee or fags out the birds will turn up.

Good luck with it

Now i'll just say that i havent got as much experience as a lot of people on this forum, but i find that patterns tend not to be an exact science because when I was starting out I must have read hundreds of articles, books, documents and post on patterns decoys and all that but the most successful thing that I have found is a rough group with at least one large space to land in, and that works fine for me and yeaterday I had a go with my airrifle for a change on a bit of clover unsuitable for the shottie - wasnt busy land pigeon wise, had but managed to get 1/2 a dozen to land briefly and shot 3 out of those...not a big bag but I dont think its bad with an air gun but would have been different story with the shottie

but then again an organised pattern might work really well on fields that are plagued by pigeons - sadly i havent had one of those oppurtunities yet but there we go

hope this helps

The Horseshoe Pattern as been used to lots of success over the years, but its not just a matter of dropping them down one behind the other, if you've watched a flock of Pigeons on the ground they are not regimental. some will be feeding pointing one way and some the other but nearly always into the wind at some point, and some will be feeding while others watch. You have to try and simulate that pattern, as a rule of thumb 3-4 feeders and one watcher, same when decoying Geese, get this pattern right and you will get the bags: Dave
