Shooting News

Recommended Posts

just been lent a huge pile of old Shooting News mags from 84 to 87. It really brings back memories to the days when i would be nipping to the newsagents to see if it had arrived . Due to the lack of colour pics they do look a little dated, but the articles are brilliant, a step back in time. The letters page "terrier and lurcher talkabout" is brilliant with challenges being issued and strong opinions voiced, a truely entertaining read.... its going to take me some time to wade through them all!! :yes:

There was quite a bit of banter surrounding a lad from the far north that was lamping large numbers of hares, 64 in three nights if i remember correctly. :yes:

Did'nt Daergi used to write the terrier articles in them days? Used to be a lot better then than it is now

He did indeed, Wazzer :) 'Daergi'. " Lloyd on Lurchers ". The Ferreting Column. There were writers and By Lines in that paper ye could really look foreward to each week :yes:

Letters to the Editor was, of course, quite often a f*ckin battleground! :laugh:

Never actually opened a copy of CMW in my life. Don't see why I ever should either.

Yes i used to love deargi's articles, thought they were brilliant as a kid. All the lurcher ones too had me enthralled. What is funny though is that there are hardly any Plummer articles. I always thought he had wrote weekly from the start, but i guess my mind is a little cloudy. Never forget rushiong to the newsagents with my 45 pence!!!!! :D

on one "talkabout page" some chap from Stirling has sent a letter and photo in of his catch he had allegedly made with his great dane.....86 rabbits in 2 1/2 hours!!! with a bloody great dane.... :clapper: i bet there was some right laughs over that one.....

i would scan a couple , but i dont know if i would be infringing copyright laws so it is best that i d0nt. ;)

bloody good read though... :yes::clapper:
