I know the aussies and kiwis use them on their pig dogs,as they can end up miles away, but I can't see much use for them on running dogs here in the UK.   Cheers.

Simo - that would be good mate, cheers!   Chart - Sorry, wasn't meant to be so cryptic. An example of their use would be, before the ban, running large quarry such as deer, with a dog in the daytime

red dawn, it was called loc8tor pet, it was no good for ferreting the thing didn't work underground lol i will dig it out put post up mate

Cheers mate, i thought it might be the Garmin Astro, that's the new one. By all accounts, the most popular. Pretty pricey though!

THERE is a company in county durahm, they sell location devices and have gps collars, they have one wich works in what they called real time and mapped your dogs were they have been and speed they travelled i thought it would be interesting to see the work rate of your dog or in a coursing situation with two dogs wearing them

As i have not owned one i could not comment on how accurate or good they are, i bought a loc8tor off them i have a leaflet ill dig it out and put up the company name i think its in peter lee atb 2.8

I seem to remember this from before, something about the ferret idea, but it not working under ground. What is the handset like, is it just direction and distance, or a visual thing? I have a feeling their units were very short range, and wouldnt work unless there was a line of sight, which makes it not much use for finding a dog in a forest.

When my Pat x border was a pup it was a twat for running off in long wheat in search of hare's and would be missing for upto half a hour..so i taped one of my falconry transmitter's too his coller so i could monitor his movment..it's much more relaxing knowing where they are when they are out of sight..

Yes, i heard about the marking system, so you can mark where you have caught etc.

What is the map view like on the 220, is it fairly comprehensive, i.e what kind of detail is it in?

Link to post

its not in any great detail very basic but does the job im near sure you can buy up grades for it but to tell you the truth you dont look at the map that offten your more dependent on the compass system as thats the one that tells you the direction and distance to head in
