Loaded gun left in unlocked van.

the dog walker commited an offence end of, he should have either rang the police and or waited for the owner to turn up. there was an ex soldier charged for possesion of a shotgun after finding it and handing it in to a police station not so long back.

Theft quite frankly. The walker removed property from property whilst on anothers property! If that concerned, I'd have phoned the bill, waited out until they arrived. By which time the bloke would've returned by the sounds of it. Doubt the walker had a FAC. I'd counter sue for theft etc, make the walker prove he didn't jimmy the lock.

Agreed the dog walker should have called the Police if he was concerned and was unable to alert the owner. He should not have taken the weapon.

One thing the report says he got fined £750.00 but does not say if he had his licence revoked? :hmm:

It states that the rifle was forfeited, so I'd assume that meant his FAC was revoked.

It was stupid to leave the rifle anyway, but what I find odd is that if he was looking for game and had found some, what was he intending to do, ask it to wait while he returned for the rifle?

Also IMO the Dog walker technically should also have been prosecuted, as he was in possession of a firearm and ammunition which, even if he was a FAC holder he wasn't authorised to be in possession of that particular weapon.

tbf the walker said he sounded the vans horn ,and youre man didnt return to the van at that

i think he did the right thing short of locking the van which he couldnt do

if kids or lowlifes came across the van there could have been far worse outcomes

and as said why the feck do you go looking for game without your rifle

something else was going one here imho

Imagine the fella drove along looking for someone with a gun, would he of believed he wasn't robbing the gun, i think the fella might of give him a slap and took the gun back, would of been a different court case to talk over.
