broonball 38
hi my bitch pup is 23tts atm dont think she's got much more to go???? what sorta standard would you expect of a pup this age? she listens but doesnt always act, she knows right from wrong but i think atm she's goin through a BITCHY stage where the crime is worth the punishment. she's my 1st dog and im happy with her progress day by day, one thing that is buggin me tho is her hunting on after a chase, i dont know how to stop her apart from putting the lead back on. if we're on our normal walk she tends to be fine, but its when we go elsewhere she just has to know whats round the corner so to speak. its not a massive problem and it will work itself out im sure but any tips would be handy. personally i cant wait til the ferretin starts and she can start workin proper, iv also recently gained some new permission and tonight i went down and it was teaming with rabbits a full 150yds from there warrens at the wrong end of the field brilliant for tomorrow mornin i think. the pup is a collie whippet saluki bull grey and a bonny thing if i say so myself(i'll get pics up when i work it out). any tips on training would be spot on im not a total idiot and its goin ok so far but sometimes words from the wise can help make something good into something great. cheers john p.s. she's had two rabbits so far, one whilst ferretin when she was very young(mistake no1) and a young one which she didnt kill outright whilst out last week wi my lass (softmouth?).she also saw two longears put up last week and thay ran straight past us, i was so tempted.....but i kept the lead on and stuck to my guns! it would have been mint......... Ideation 8,216
Firstly, well done for not putting an 8month old pup on a hare, along with it being illegal (yawn), it quite possibly would have proper f****d her, especially with the hard ground at the moment. SOunds like you are doing k, all dogs are individuals and have different traits and speed of learning, stick with what you are doing and dont rush owt, she will be about 12 months in september and ready to pile some work into. But maybe give her a few easy runs end of summer, if we get some wet weather. Quote Link to post
broonball 38
nice 1 that is pretty much the plan, she had an excellent run last week whilst walking about 200yds, the rabbit had half that and i swear she was two strides behind it when it went to ground, come september i'll hav her ferreting to get her confidence up and her head down, give her some focus on the task. she's started following my hand signals which i never expected, it honestly seems like everyday something new clicks in her. cheers the pup is in my avatar Edited May 31, 2012 by broonball Quote Link to post
