Soil sterilization.

Recommended Posts

I want to cleanse the soil which the hens have been on for the last 2yrs. I've moved the coops, dug over the soil then saturated it.

I want something to kill the microbes etc, but leaving it still safe to sew seeds (grass and canary type seeds to sprout for the hens to eat when the pens are put back)

Is there anything which will kill bacteria quickly but still leave the soil safe please?

When i tried to research it on the web, steam and microwave were the methods described. But somehow the though of shoveling masses of the stuff and the aroma of old chicken poo filling my house put me right off the idea :D

Lime is used as a fertiliser in farming

Can be limed then seeded or seeded then limed

And it makes dung or dead animals rot down quicker
