shropshire-lad 9
Mine will be feed on meat rabbit heads ect as that's how i got my kits ferreting, by giving them the rabbits heads the older ferrets go,t no need for training as that's all i did to get mine working and they are good workers. patterdalejoel 669
training involves pipe running to start then out in the field with small one or two holes - what is the point of me letting a kit go that will not work and the person will bring it straight back or 'dump' it i can rehome as pets and have had to do so on occasions when the ferret will not or is not interested in working so not really training just sorting the wheat from the chaff? what age do you make a decision? i have an accidental litter i will be keeping 2 back from, what age is deadline day in terms of the right attitude and ability to work? the shit uns will not be passed on by the way. derbylad1 293
Training?????? never done ferret training with pipes, never heard of it to be honest. 8 weeks or 12 weeks...i cant see what difference there is. I do agree tho, i think they can stay with the mother for a while, no rush.

Tug 168
Anybody else notice that the OP says the Jill was in kit when he got her? You've got an unknown/unproven Jill, in lotto an unknown hob and you are SELLING the kits? Peddler.
derbylad1 293
Yeah i saw that...but where does it say they are not proven? They could've come from a mate or someone he knows, who simply doesn't want them and the hassle of a litter of kits.
GrCh 856
no only by 5 pound was going to give them away free to good home but wont to get her or the hob neutered thats fair enough.
shropshire-lad 9
Yes i got given the ferrets off a old bloke by me, he was giving up ferreting. So i had them off him i had 1 so i said two more ant going to hurt and 3 ferrets was more than enough i am thinking about keeping the runt, as the mother was the runt of her litter and she is a good worker. As this bloke got me in to ferreting so i have seen her at work number of times, and know i have a whipit/colie/greyhound to help me out so dont need them all. plz don't get funny . If you have any questions the plz just ask thanks
COMPO 54
i think ferrets are weaned a lot earlier than andy kelly thinks.......last litter i had were eating by themselves at 6 weeks old and the jill wasn't feeding them......she was sleeping elsewhere and climbing out of their way Its handy to get a kit asap to tame it and get it into your ways.......i think 7 weeks old is a fair age to let them go,
shropshire-lad 9
when there are off there mom i will let them go its like kittens in away

Think you have too much time on your hands hes not training them... it sounds in a way that he is seeing if they will be good workers in the future, and not passing on shit ferret kits which sounds decent of him.

You can't tell that at 10-12 weeks old by a ferret running through a tube ! You won't know if there any good until you start working them ! My lurcher pup chases and picks up a ball does that mean its gonna make a good rabbit dog ?? You can't tell feck all, all you can do is breed from proven stuff and hope that they follow in the same direction. So yeah like I said they can go at 8 weeks
Tug 168
when there are off there mom i will let them go its like kittens in away Wait longer than that, at least 8 weeks minimum.
ade33uk 86
are you saying you stick a 10 or 12 old week ferret into a small two hole rabbit warren ...what if it comes across a big buck it could get the kicking of its little life and never work again .absolute waste of time . 8 weeks they are weened ,let them go , you wont tell if its a worker or not til at least first winter season when they will be 8 or 9 months old
