darkdd81 36
Hi all I recently took the plunge and purchased an HW100T .177 which i'm very happy with. I'm in the process of accuracy testing and deciding which pellet i want to bulk buy. At the moment i'm using Accupells which are shooting ok. The problem being that at 20-30-40 yards, the gun will easliy place 3-4 pallets throught the same hole, and then the next 3 will be flyers. Now i know that every barrel is different, and just because you've heard that your mate uses one type of pellet it might not be any good in your gun, but i'm a lillte unsure about the different sizes. The four pellets that i'm going to try are AA field in 4.52, RWS Superfield in 4.52, JSB Exacts in 4.52 and Rangemaster Li's in 4.52. My question is what do HW owners think about the difference in accuaracy between 4.51 and 4.52? I noticed that when i was bechtesting my AA TX200HC i was having great resluts with accupell in .22 (and they were a tight fit in the barrel), but when i tried them in my old HW77, they were terrible and i noticed that they were a really lose fit in the barrel. So i'm wandering whether my HW100 has got the slightly larger barrel, therefore i should be using the larger pellet? Any feedback would be welcome Thanks Guys and good shooting. Quote Link to post
Probuk 93
Hello Darhdd.. did you fill your rifle before you got your first 3 flyers.?? When you first fill you will find the speed of your first few shot's will be higher...this is somthing to do with the regulator after filling..but im not to sure exactly what...im not that technically minded. Have you ever been to a HFT Comp.?? Well you will see most the lad's dry fireing there first few shots off after filling there rifles and the above is the reason why. Apart from that it could be down to pellet choice or weather condition...even the slightest bit of a breez can alter the course of your pellet..especially with .22 cal as its more effected by the wind... and size is the reason..People tend to think because 177 is lighter that it's more effected by wind but this isnt true...its traveling at around 800 feet per second from the muzzel... 22 is taveling at around 500 feet per second and it dosent cut through the air as sweet as a smaller pellet traveling 300 feet a second faster. Hope this helps a bit. Marty Edited May 28, 2012 by Probuk Quote Link to post
darkdd81 36
Hi Probuk. I have to add that the gun was bought new and has only fired around 200 pellets. The day i got it, i went straight to work where i have access to some large wharehouses. I set up targets at 30-40 an 50 yards. I would say it took around 10 shoots to get it on to zero, then i was just doing 5 shot groups. This is when i found that that around 2 out of every 5-7 shot group was a flyer, and when i say fligher, it was generaly going either low left or low right. i did some more plinking yesterday and found that it was off zero and shooting to the right. It took about 6 clicks on my hawke sidewinder to bring it back on zero, and then i would shoot three-four shoots at ten yards through the same hole, then again the the bloody flyers. It may be just a rougue tin of pellets. I'm going to order the pellets mentioned in the post above and try and find out whats going on as myself and my shooting partner have just secured 2 golf courses (a 9 hole and a 18 hole) that a overrun with rabbits, and i don't want to take the hw100 out untill it's shooting as i know it should. Cheers. Quote Link to post
clubshot 22
I have a HW100 in .177 Never suffered Fylers - Unlike many other magazine Rifles the HW100 can not alter / effect flight Sounds more like pellet issues My Hunting pellet are Exterminator 9.50's @ 4.50 Heads BOB/R Quote Link to post
Probuk 93
Hi...i really wouldnt read into it so much. your getting pellet through pellet hole and an odd flyer, this is nothing to worry about at all. Not all the pellets in the same tin will weigh the same. By the sounds of it to me your rifle is absolutly fine and i wouldnt worry about the odd flyer as every air rifle shooter will experiance the same issue but its nothing to worry about Get yourself on the golf course and get some pictures up. That little bit of German kit youv just bought will be spot on..have some confidence and youl have loads of fun with it. Marty Edited May 28, 2012 by Probuk Quote Link to post
Probuk 93
Here's another tip for you...All good air rifle shooters should use a LRF laser range finder, it wll increas your kill rate dramaticaly and decrease wounding of an animal.. Have fun and enjoy your new 100 Marty Quote Link to post
darkdd81 36
Thanks Pro buck. I know what yoy mean about trying to not worry about it as i think that its easy to become obsessed with the quest for accuracy and losing confidence in your kit if everything does'nt go perfectly. But i know the HW is cable of way more, as i was getting more accuaracy from my TX200hc. Hopefully practice and a pellet change will solve it. P.s i've got a hawke lrf400 and your write mate, they are indispensible. When i think of all those hunting trips in my youth when i was learning, how much easier it would have been with one of these!!! Cheers again. Quote Link to post
barrywhite 282
the pellet choice you have listed are the same pellet in different tins or very very very close to each other airarms and jsb did not shoot to well from my gun.try superdomes bisley magnums both work good in my hw100 different trajectories .the one I use now are mosquito express got a few tins left you cannot get them any more ????? they shoot nice a little low on power but bang on at long ranges . AR177 588
Have a look on Ted's Holdover channel on youtube he has an interesting video on how very different the same brand of pellets can be and how in one tin you can have a whole range of head sizes ATB Adam Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
That is why I use Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum, very uniform pellet size and weight! Quote Link to post
Probuk 93
That is why I use Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum, very uniform pellet size and weight! Just out of interest moley Arnt the crosman's the same as JSB's and AA field's...??? Think they might be from what i was told a while back by an International shooter. Marty Quote Link to post
villaman 9,983
Daystate Heavies 10.3 gr are really good and the BC is high. Pellet on pellet on my 38 yard range Quote Link to post

pipa 299
I have the same prob with my Hw 100 177' at 35yrds they seen to group every 4 or 5 shots then the 6 7 8 shot fly all over?ive tried different pellets but to no avail? It's had all new seals fitted and reg set up, but why is it not accurate? My 22 R10 is pellet on pellet at this range? And 177 are supposed to be more accurate? Chris Quote Link to post
