Countryman's Weekly

dont know about her foxing dogs because never seen it but beleive me or not when i say her dogs ferretin lamping and pre ban coursing on the big land are a joy to watch, one of the first times i coursed with her she sent her bitch out to a hare which was way out ,and all on hand signals the bitch caught and retreived it ive also seen her coursing dogs catch after mamoth slips all on the big land and theres also a few members on here that have also seen numerous times what i have just posted ,it always amazes me when people keep slagging the countrymans weekly yet still read it just dont make sense to me .myself i dont partically like or enjoy it but guess what i just dont bother buying it.other than the odd ocasion and then ime mostly disapointed with it but ime realistic in knowing with the ban and climate like it is tcw and its writers are not daft enough to start publishing stuff that is going to end in a court case . i noticed a while back they were advertising for people to write in and paying if their articles got published why dont some of the ones moaning about it get writing to try and majke it a better read .

I've stayed away from this thread, not wanting to add fuel to a blithering fire, but the quote is incorrect. I never said a dog SHOULD take a fox blah blah. I would never say how a dog should take fo

I got a good recipe for flapjacks out of the CMW once, if anyone wants it PM me for details..........................

I agree completely mate. If a dog isnt right penny will spot it and put it right. The knuckle dragging prick who started this thread and the last one very often "advises" people to either cull or dump

"a good fox Lurcher should grab a fleeing fox by the brush, let go again the moment the fox retaliate and take the throat hold needed to end matters quickly"

I should say, people like baldockbanks courser (or what ever his name is) havnt got the IQ to write an article for a magazine. I mean who starts a topic just to slag someone off. I've seen a few of penny's dogs run and they are pretty handy dogs. And how can you coment on someone else's dogs taking fox, if you havnt seen them do it. Not all dogs steam in like a bull cross.

I've stayed away from this thread, not wanting to add fuel to a blithering fire, but the quote is incorrect. I never said a dog SHOULD take a fox blah blah. I would never say how a dog should take fox: there's more than one way to skin a cat, as they say. What I did say was this: My best foxing lurchers were those which had extremely fast reactions; this enabled them to grab a fleeing fox by the brush, let go again the moment the fox turned to retaliate, and take the throat hold needed to end matters quickly.

They didn't always do this, but if the fox was diving into cover they'd have lost it if they hadn't grabbed the brush, which was the nearest available bit of fox to grab hold of. To quote just a few lines of an article risks misinterpretation even if a quote is correct, which this wasn't.

I've also had dogs which wouldn't look at fox, even pretended not to see them if they came across them, or just didn't see them as quarry.

thats a fair point, some people can say what they like to who they like. same as its fine for plummer and hancock to be slated, mike browns whippets etc. but as soon as someone mentions jd or pt its not allowed

i think the fact this thread was put back up after being taken down somewhat disproves that

I didn't read the article, as i dont buy it anymore, and i am one of the few who are not interested in catching Reds, im a Rabbit man,

But I do have Skycats book, which in my opinion is worth having,

i have corresponded with her on here, and her advice has been good, and always replies quickly, if she was not on this site, it would be a lot poorer.
