Countryman's Weekly

I stopped buying this years ago but when I popped into a village shop and there it sat on the shelf I thault I'll have a look.

Quite frankly I'd rather have given my £2.10 to an appeal to help more Pakistanis and other immigrants to settle in this country, a paper that is best used on the bottom of a budgies cage.

1st there's penny Taylor (I'm sure you know who she is on here) stating a good fox Lurcher should "grab a fleeing fox by the brush, let go again the moment the fox retaliate and take the throat hold needed to end matters quickly." and in a blatant bitchy swipe at the more serious fox man states "novice hunters are of the opinion that a big strong dog is needed in order to kill foxs on a REGULAR basis".

2nd there's "corvid" who does a whole article on breeding of coursing lurchers with out 1 mention of the king of the coursing field the saluki Lurcher. He then waffles a passage from a Plummer book that the ideal dog for hares is 3/4 greyhound 1/4 collie, yes indeed ideal if you like a dog that will get educated and start throwing the towel in by its second season, once it knows it's no match for a strong winter fen hare on its 3rd run.

And that a 1st cross deerhound is "simply not fast enough"?. I own two that are faster than many a proven match dog in a strait line but lack in other departments when it comes to purely running day time hares.

These people are obviously well under qualified to comment by there articles and each no doubt have there own agenda against certain lurchers and there owners.

I always try not to get involved in telling people about subjects I am not experienced in myself. These individuals evidently don't take the same approach.

FOOLS.

I've stayed away from this thread, not wanting to add fuel to a blithering fire, but the quote is incorrect. I never said a dog SHOULD take a fox blah blah. I would never say how a dog should take fo

I got a good recipe for flapjacks out of the CMW once, if anyone wants it PM me for details..........................

I agree completely mate. If a dog isnt right penny will spot it and put it right. The knuckle dragging prick who started this thread and the last one very often "advises" people to either cull or dump

what about others that knew plummer was a con and said nothing and only basked in the glory of being in his books no names mentioned like but its funny how they didnt come to the fore all them years ago to say plummer was really fiction writer lol.....

personally i enjoyed most of plummers books omega probably been the funniest he was a good writer that captured the imagination which in my eyes can only be a good thing as it got me more an more into hunting an i wouldnt have wanted my life any other way even if i could have it all over again i doubt i`d have changed much........wouldnt have minded a few more slappers tho..... all the best mate

:hmm:Back in the day,..there was no chance of having your say 'in print',..there was no Internet forums, and no chance of righting wrongs,...Them as were in fashion, had total control, of how things went down, and it took some time to get a voice, and by then, it was far too late,..the dye had been cast...

But,..hopefully today, we have freedom of speech and can express our feelings and opinions...

All the best, CHALKWARREN... :victory:

Chalkie resoect you and your post but this whole thread actually proves freedom of speech does not take place on THL as the comments expressed made about Penny would have not been removed .

I understand why and agree with them being removed but for that reason it clear freedom of speech does not take place.

Fair enough, but the mere fact that you guys are having your say on here,..is streets ahead of what me (and a few other, amatuer wordsmiths) had to contend with, in the 80's into the early 90's....

You should be free, to ask your questions...and folk are free,... to choose, to ignore them..

On topic,i rarely buy the cmw now,the main articles that held my interest where the lurcher and terrier section. The standard of these articles,on the whole now,is of a standard i don,t wish to pay to read. The only articles that,on the whole,i could relate to are written by P.T.Sorry Penny,im not forking out my £2 just to read your input{just pm me your article, cheers].It would be easier to write some of the articles slowly, because a lot of readers don,t think very fast,i read the article on fox,s and found little to disagree with,i don,t know whether thats because i understood the gist of it,relating it to some of my own experiences,or more likely because i know nowt also.

Know a lad who has done 2 or 3 ferreting articles and he says that they edited some out before going to press, also I had a bitch 23.5 tts really fine built bitch who was plentiful fast would nip fox to stand it up and wait for the opportunity to get hold of the throat, she was in no way a foxing bitch and didn't like the sharp end and tbh I only slipped her on a handful of foxes all dealt with in this manner, IMO there is a fine line between dispatching quarry and fighting the quarry and this bitch bordered that so I stopped slipping her on them and she was a demon on edible game.
