RatSniper 19
I know this is a bit late but I haven't had time to post Im one of those members who just read the posts and very rarely posts myself, but I will try my best. On Tuesday early afternoon, my father and I made the journey to are permission 2 hours away, Its a long drive but the freedom we are given on the farm is worth it, Its only about 300 acres. The family that run the farm, both run the farm with its live stock and general day to day jobs. They make the best sausages known to man, or more pork wrappings . The farm its self is situated on a south facing hill with a woodland around it, making it a ideal habitat for those pesky Rabbits, But that's where we come into it we have been controlling the numbers for a year now and it seems like we have it balance's for us to shoot them and the farmers crop not being destroyed. Any way we arrived at half 3 into the farm yard where we set up and I jumped up on a few bales just to have a look over the hedge to see if anything was out in the fields. To my surprise I saw a rabbit under a tree sun bathing and happily nibbling away. There was no way i would get to it my dad said, It was roughly 110 yards away, but i was up for the challenge. So i hopped off the bales and rolled under a gate. I Started my stalk slowly and moved quietly watching where every foot step of mine landed. I made it to within 40 yards as I got my self into position for a shot. As the cross hairs went onto his head, he decided to hop into the hedge. And then shot back out, sat still for a few seconds and bolted across the field. He had put 100 yards between us as he sat on the other side of the field nibbling away again. I got back up as he ducked into the hedge. I could hear my dad laughing his head of as i strolled back to the car embarrassed that i had failed his challenge. I swore I would get him by the end of the day, I never did After popping into the farm house and saying hello and letting them know we were around, I popped off into the back fields. These are probably my favorite fields on the farm as i shot my first non helped rabbit here. I had sat under a tree with a fallen dead branch infront of me as he hopped out 30 yards away. Quick walk around i could see alot of youngsters playing around in the sun, but none of the bigger bunnys were out to play. I saw a Roe Buck in the field happily minding his own business. I sat and watched him for a bit until he picked up my scent and buggered off. Anyway carried on walking around the fields as I saw a reasonable size bunny sun bathing as I approached quietly he spotted me and hopped into the hedge row. I laided next to a small rock crop which was roughly 35/37 yards away from the hedge as the bipod went up, and 20 minutes later out hopped the rabbit Cross hairs placed over him and dropped him square in the head This is the view i had whilst waiting for him to come back out... The Roe from early decided to pop his head out in the next field again. He did not hang around for long, after that it went quiet, so i returned to the car The oddly coulor fella was a cross. The Father of the daughter who runs the farm, had released black rabbits for a bit of humor on his land 40 years down the line there still around. This was the first rabbit I shot on my own up there. Its one of those moments you don't forget. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Some lovely photos, a great right up and a Moby Bun too (I had a black rabbit on my permission last year, It was named Moby Bun as it enjoyed a life getting away from me with an ability that verged on Supernatural). Great shooting too! Well done! Quote Link to post

Had the little bugger in my sights a couple of months back but as I was about to fire a bigger one popped up so took that one instead. Every time I see it now it somehow gives me the slip!
