zini 1,939
Hi lads, Well that's me just got up after a good afternoons sleep after shooting all night and some of the morning today with Davy and Malcolm (Malc) Barnard from CountryPursuitsTV. Me and Davy invited Malc to one of our shared rat shooting permissions in Oxfordshire a few weeks ago to which Malc gratefully agreed accordingly. After meeting Malc at the location I took him to meet the farmer and introduced him to Steve (the farmer) so Steve knew who he was and what he looked like, just in case Malc was spotted later in the evening and suspicions to whom he was was raised. After a chat with the farmer I took Malc a tour around the permission and showed him the field boundaries and explained to him that all UK legal vermin register species were on the cards to shoot there that day. Next we went for a chip shop evening meal supper before meeting up with Davy back at the permission just after 1800 hrs. After a quick chat altogether and the greetings and hand shakes by Malc and Davy all completed we went into the pig farm its self to shoot some rats. Both me and Davy were using .22 calibre Weihrauch HW97KTs on there own with no cameras and Malc was using a new Phoenix Fast Fire, .22 carbine PCP that he was reviewing for his channel fitted with a Nite Site NS200 and mini HD DVR to record with. At first as it was still light outside and in the farm buildings we only saw a few rats that were quickly dispatched with all our rifles with some neat little head shots. The farmer as been using a new rat poison which has been killing the rats at a great number of knots and in great numbers. Despite this me and Davy were confident that when it got dark there would still be plenty of rats about to target, and we were soon to be proven right. As darkness fell and after maybe 8 to 10 joint rats and a 25 metre mixy rabbit I shot with the springer Davy decided to stay with his HW97KT but fit a Nite - Hunter Pro Light fitted instead of changing to his HW100T as originally planned, and I changed to a Edgar Bros (EB) .22 XVI with the SR12 scope now working and fixed after its recent breakage. I also fitted a prototype Nite Hunter Digi Add On (now called Sniper Cam) for legal issues out of and beyond my remit. I changed to the EB PCP as I wanted to get some nice clear recoil free footage of my nights shooting documented on camera for Malcs channel CountryPursuitsTV, who as a good will and friendship gesture both me and Davy gave him full rights to the edited final clip on just his channel. Well from then on (darkness) we could hear many rats moving about in the roofs of the pens, fighting and squeaking to each other. The ones that dared to show their heads quickly lost them as .22 lead removed their brains causing instant and humane deaths. As the kill rate rose and the night went on more and more bodies were laid about the farm waiting our day break clear up. With a couple of Monster drink and tea and snack breaks throughout the night in the farm kitchen breaking up the shooting, the night soon changed to day, where I changed back to the HW97KT without camera again. Davy stayed with his springer and lamp all night, having so much fun and enjoyment with it his HW100T PCP never got a look in. To his credit though his kill count was very high keeping up easily with the 2 PCPs kill rate and being on a par without even breaking a sweat. As the morning went on and as we were finishing for the session I managed another 2 rabbits with the springer that were dying and clearly suffering from mixy. On pick up we accounted for 41 rat bodies with a definite 20, but maybe more that we definitely knew we killed but fell down false walls and crevices or were eaten by the bigger pigs and that we could not retrieve. So all in all it was a very successful nights vermin control and very nice to finally get to meet and work with Malc on his channel. It also was a great way of blooding mine and Davy's new springers on rats and rabbits proving that a springer if used correctly with the respect it deserves is a deadly vermin control rifle and capable of doing a very clean and humane job. Here is a photo off my camera that Malc took for me. The photo of all 3 of us together and the video clip will be on CountryPursuitsTV soon on YouTube. Thanks for reading Si. I bet your well pleased with it , and you too Davy boy , I see you have one , great choice . Hi Craig, The springers are very very good quality rifles pal and accurate as hell. In fact I would say stupidly accurate and both our rifles are not fully bedded in yet so things can only get better as they say. If I'm honest with you out of all the shots I took with it yesterday I only missed 1 or 2 rats and 1 mixy rabbit and that was because I shot at the rabbit and the pellet sailed way over its head only for me to realise I had forgotten to turn my mag up from x 4 to x 10 . Footage should be on Malc's channel soon. Si. Quote Link to post

At 25 metres it was 1 hole and i mean 1 hole pellet diameter size groups. At a further distance of 40 metres Malc tells me that the group hardly opens up any bigger. We then went and shot a 61 metre small metal bell on top of a wooded post in a field when Davy arrived from the standing un supported position. Malc took it first shot with the Hornet and OGives buddy, so they must be good in some rifles. I hit it 4 times on the trot with the SFS tuned .22 HW97KT from the same standing un supported position which i was well happy with. Si. Quote Link to post

Si. they must be very barrel and power fussy then because with the .22 ive had upto 6in drift with the super10 at 30yrd and theres other lads on here who have had simlar with the .177... the standard defiant i can put near enough pellet on pellet at any shootable distance and i rate them highly but the OG's have a serious problem .... IMO of course Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Sure pal they must just suit some barrels then. Ive got a box that ill test soon and see how they do. Si. Quote Link to post
