mack it sounds to me your in fish paradise lol problem i see is you got so many predators round that rig that when you hook up on a fish theres plenty of toothy critters who gonna want to take your prize :D

Not a rig but that just about sums it up, every night the Tuna chase the flying fish, the Cuda’s turn up for the Tuna & its game on! Some other little shit looking fish during the day with teeth that must live off the barnacles on the vessel & the occasional appearance by the Dorado, Black Dolphins & the Pilot Wales that travel with them. When we are grafting alongside the static drill ships there is an abundance of fish, manmade reef but there is a strict no fishing policy in the oil fields…….all covert op’s :whistling:

Oh & its 2000mtrs deep so fck knows were my glasses are!

Cheers lads, big learning curve, had at least 6 on the line so far, this being a small one & these bitches fight for fun or worse still run under the vessel & the line snaps on the barnacles ..........so the big one got away :whistling:

hi mack  peter here (whitby sea anglers ) for the barras i use single strand wire twisted to a loop if you google up barracuda lure theres a strange rubber trolling lure like a length of rfubber tubeing ,nothing beats that for me other than that red/white rapalas are great ive taken dorados up to 60lb on a 5 piece shimano 30/50 travel rod that will handle near enough anything ,the reels were tld 30s but if you are spinning get the biggest penn 6500,i think you can afford ,i also have the shimano baitrunner here 6500b thats caught lots of huge fish ,its full of 60lb braid i use mono not wire for dorados or tuna its a chance you take ,get extra strong trebles not the bronze 1s stuffs expensive i just sold £3ooo worth for £1000 or you could have had some lures for nowt ,good luck but dont scrimp on your hooks them fish play dirty ,cheers pete c

Hi Peter, been shopping at Whitby Angling Supplies, in fact just got the Penn Bait 460 Live liner from them, opted for the smaller 460 over the multipliers etc on account of the fishing being on top (2000mtrs deep) the Tuna aren’t that big unless you go down 60mtrs (got ROV’s in the water).

I have a bunch of kit for Barracudas, including the Tube Lures but for some strange reason the Cuda have not been around for the last 2 weeks, Dorado are plentifully at the moment, they will take small Muppets but I only have 20lb line so its testing. I can’t be sure but cheap Toby Lures catch Tuna for fun but something took it this morning that took off like a steam train & pinged the line. Still learning mate, I thought I’d learned a lesson last trip with the hooks & stocked up with Mustad trebles etc, bronze type & they are shite, even the Tuna bend them!
