Mack 92
I'm not a real fisherman so bare with me on this, I’m struggling to get my hands on decent size lures, Muppet's or whatever the fck they call them. I need some squid looking type that are around the 10”-12” mark, good swag not the shit I've been buying on EBay. They are for Bull Dorado & more specifically Barracuda which is what I interested in, both of these fish are giving me problems, the Dorado just straightened the hooks when they get sick of playing with me & the Barracuda just keep cleaning me out, they take the tuna off the line, hooks, lures & 100lb wire trace in some cases. I know there are some good expensive items on the market, mainly from Norway & Oz etc but the amount I’m going through will break the bank so being a cheap skate.........can any one point me in the right direction for BIG stuff? Mack 92
Chimp Choker! South of the mighty Tees my mate, far safer than the north bank! It’s safer at graft than it is anywhere near Hartlepool……………...mind you the local militia are a bit rowdy & the “real” fishermen are all pirates! Quote Link to post
Mack 92
Cheers R, got a bunch of those………or did have, they do the business with Dorado but see link below, these are perfect replicas of the real thing. Tried the real thing yesterday (dead) after one got washed up on deck, lasted less than 30 seconds when it hit the water, Barracuda shredded it but never took the hooks. Also tried a bunch of live bait from small tuna & some other shit but those big tooth fcks just cruise right up & blank them or nip straight through the 80ld line above the steel trace & swivels…… http://www.halibut.n...uper-Squids.htm Quote Link to post

Mack 92
Thanks for that Mani, night shift so I’ll get right on that. Already got an order in for Mustad trebles sizes from 2/0 - 8/0 & some single hooks 2/0 65mm & 70mm, swivels 2/0 & a few rolls of 100lb trace wire so any advice that would be welcome. No idea how heavy these fish are but they are all around 1+meter in length. Also got a few pals grafting with me who live in South East Asia & the US who will fetch & carry to keep the overheads down on P&P / taxes etc............looking into that at the moment Quote Link to post

Mack 92
Going back to basics Mani, what class rod? I’ve just bought a 30lb boat rod (cheapo) & was going to run with 50lb braid, 100lb trace on some ½ decent beach casting multipliers I have back home that never get used, I don’t have any of this kit with me, it’s all been posted back to the UK, I’m still using hand lines & a bunch of shite assorted lures I bought without knowing my arse from my elbow but after having lost a couple of Dorado & loosing almost everything else to Cuda its getting personal. Managed to click with a supplier in the States who is going to ship to one of the lads who lives in Oregon & he’s supplying us with some free kit in exchange for photos (Lure/Fish/ Mouth) when we knock a list up. Oh, "small barrel lead" & "copper wire a small balloon"? Thanks in advance. Quote Link to post
Guest Manitoba
most dorada and cudas can be caught on a fixed spool reel ,, we use shimano 6500 reel on a shakespear ugly stick rod 3.5 test curve a very cheap but bombproof rod , , for all trolling and livebaiting,, for livebaiting for cuda, thread a ounce barrell lead then tie trace with a strong single shark hook or owner type tarpon hook... half inflate a balloon. and pierce the balloon knot with 6in of thin copper wire lay alongside of braid and twist 3 times turn tag ends back along side the braid and the balloon will stay in position about 2ft above the trace swivle ,, when cuda strikes ballon will pop off / use a smaller hook and livebait for dorada and ditch the balloon and lead as freelined livebait on a single hook is a must.. with the trolling we use ande monofil 20lb , never wrecked an ugly stik or 6500 reel but wrecked plenty of other rod and reels lol atb and good luck Edited May 27, 2012 by Manitoba Quote Link to post

Taking into account the grief we have with customs down here coming & going, I’ve been leaning towards these compacts but need the opinion of someone who knows better. Mack 92
Will do, I'll get onto them later today. Had a good run of Tuna last night, got a few pic’s but can’t get them online at the moment, Cuda’s had a pop at them online. Good fun except I lost my prescription safety glasses over the fcking side! £120 quid’s worth.....price of a good rod! Quote Link to post
