Leamo 7
If you had roe deer sleeping in your garden and eating your shrubs, then settling down for the night less than 30 meters away would you head shoot them with a .22 rimfire? Garanteed two a night maximum I have seen 11 but garanteed every night at least two...... Hmmmmm I would use a bigger calibre but don't want to scare my children who are sleeping. Quote Link to post

Leamo 7
Bought the place a month ago never realised until about two weeks ago what was going on after returning home from a night out. Easy easy pickings maybe I'll just get the kids to sleep out for a while. Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
Im no expert but would a .22 be a legal calibre and wouldn't it be illegal to shoot a deer on your property under your FAC? Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Unless your Firearms Certificate is conditioned to allow you to shoot Deer with a .22LR then its illegal that way. You are likely to injure the Deer with all but a very close shot unless you're a fine marksman which is both unethical, unsporting and probably against animal cruelty/welfare laws. The .22LR does not meet the required standard muzzle energy for Deer set out in the Deer Act, notwithstanding the above two points. Nope. Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
Isn't it also illegal to shoot deer at night? Quote Link to post
Leamo 7
No a .22 is no where near legal and the land I have is deemed fit for fac, it's on top of a place called haldon in Devon real steep surrounded by woodland I can only think they come into the garden area to escape the wind and bed down in a cop 27 meters away. Ill probably just use the 303 when the kids stay out or at that range maybe the 243 but can see one now and thought well the rimmie would be quite and I could place it within sort of 5 mm. SportingShooter 0
Isn't it also illegal to shoot deer at night? One hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset Quote Link to post
Leamo 7
Not to sure on the laws, I figured if they were head shot it'd be instant you no between the eye and ear. It doesn't make sense to me how you can neck shoot them or shoulder surely that's more inhumane than a round straight threw the brain I mean you wouldn't shoot a rabbit or fox in the body or neck by choice surely? I wouldn't in any case. Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,935
What to do is, put up a post telling folk exactley where you live (just like the one above) then tell everyone you are thinking about shooting deer, (a) with an unsuitable and illegal calibre ( at night without the appropriate licence © Probably out of season ,as I doubt that they are all Bucks. Bash on. Do you imagine that the wrong types don`t read this forum, !? 3 Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
For an accurate head shot you still need to be close. A .22LR will kill a Deer without question in the right place and distance. It has been used as a despatch tool for much larger animals. Neck shooting is fine as long as you're accurate. Depending on what ammunition and rifle I was using, the body shot is very common. The Fox, most of my shots are in the engine room with ballistic tips. No issues. Quote Link to post

The Seeker 3,048
No I wouldn't it's illegal and apart fom anything else other than a perfect head shot is likely to injure the animal, Surely if you are a FAC holder you must know this already? Quote Link to post
