yes but their hutch's and sheds need to be kept cool also as they can be like ovens in this weather.   Just thought id put a post up for anyone new to keeping ferrets.

yes but fans dont work with ferrets realy because they dont sweat.

I understand that its best to keep the meat fresh as possible when feeding, but leaving it in there for a day won't hurt. You don't see wild animals passing there nose up because it's got a bit of nos

Not so keen on the wet sheets over the hutch/coop idea. Yes to water filled and frozen bottles with a towel covering them, water trays, bottles and water bowls, damp towels, but at the end of the day you need them to drink the water as well as stay cool. Again, I use Ferrets Formula, I put a few drops in a bowl of water the ferts drink the bowl and I know they've taken enough water.

And frozen rabbit is not recommended!

why?

Basic hygiene really. Frozen meat out in hot weather will be teeming with bacteria and flies in no time. I don't see anything wrong with giving very small bits of frozen meat you'd know they'd eat pretty sharpish, just not large parts/whole rabbit that would be lingering about in the heat growing god knows what all over it.

i take it you dont feed whole carcuss to your monkeys then, if you have enough of them how long do you think it lasts once defrosted

No, mine don't finish a whole carcass overnight, and I don't like to waste meat ;)

My ferts aren't wild animals, their food is guarenteed ;) It's really not my problem if a wild animal dies from bacteria poisoning, but meat and hot weather is a risk I'd rather steer well clear of with my animals. I wouldn't eat a day old meat that had been out in the hot weather, don't see why domesticated animals should have to either, but each to their own.

Dont forget the ginga's, or as they may prefer strawberry blondes. They are the ones who usually end up bright red :D

I just dampened a few sheets of news paper and threw them in the freezer for few minutes the two jills they enjoyed them and slide underneath them for a cool down. Only a temporary respite but better than nothing

talk of scotsmen with sunburn reminds me of when frankie boyle was on about the fella who stopped the terrorist at the airport.........saving a load of scots from getting burnt.......but thats what would have happened anyway if they had got that flight
