yes but their hutch's and sheds need to be kept cool also as they can be like ovens in this weather.   Just thought id put a post up for anyone new to keeping ferrets.

yes but fans dont work with ferrets realy because they dont sweat.

I understand that its best to keep the meat fresh as possible when feeding, but leaving it in there for a day won't hurt. You don't see wild animals passing there nose up because it's got a bit of nos

mine has a water bowl, you know the big ceramic dog bowls, holds a couple of pints of water and is too heavy to knock over. Ferrets struggle to drink enough water fast enough from bottles so a big bowl is better and they can splash and paddle in it also when its warm......plus the hutches being between the shed and the back garden wall means they always have some shade on the hutch and also some part thats in the sun.

ferrets get neglected by a lot of folk at the best of times, in the warm weather its a good idea that we are discussing these idea's to keep them cool.

i agree that wet blankets aren't a good idea..........they will only be wet and cold for a bit then hot and wet, then dry and very warm.......

Not so keen on the wet sheets over the hutch/coop idea. Yes to water filled and frozen bottles with a towel covering them, water trays, bottles and water bowls, damp towels, but at the end of the day you need them to drink the water as well as stay cool. Again, I use Ferrets Formula, I put a few drops in a bowl of water the ferts drink the bowl and I know they've taken enough water.

And frozen rabbit is not recommended!

why?

Basic hygiene really. Frozen meat out in hot weather will be teeming with bacteria and flies in no time. I don't see anything wrong with giving very small bits of frozen meat you'd know they'd eat pretty sharpish, just not large parts/whole rabbit that would be lingering about in the heat growing god knows what all over it.

Put frozen bottles in with them yesterday, and have put an old cat litter tray full of water in the court for them to have a splash about in. I've also got ice bags which make sticks of ice and are perfect for slipping into the drinking bottles a few at a time to keep the drinking water nice and cool. I had a clip on fan somewhere too but can't seem to be able to find it anywhere..

I've got a large washing up bowl filled with water and brick at the bottom and by the side so easy to get in and out. I keep throwing a few ice cubes in there...so funny watching them 'apple bobbing' for them! Taken the bedding out but put a thin cotton sheet as a giant hammock as air can pass through it to keep them cool.

My sister's Guinea pig's are harder to keep cool as they don't like water, don't drink much and won't lie in a hammock!
