jonathan 0
it doesnt work like that E.g if you cross a first x collie geryhound with a first x collie gery hound some pups will look like first cross collie gery hounds if C G stands for collie gery hound out of 4 pups you could get C G C CC CG G CG GG am not very good at explaning stuff Quote Link to post
higgins 75
it doesnt work like that E.g if you cross a first x collie geryhound with a first x collie gery hound some pups will look like first cross collie gery hounds if C G stands for collie gery hound out of 4 pups you could get C G C CC CG G CG GG am not very good at explaning stuff what ferrets is saying is a mathematical formula if you like, you need to understand the basics of genetics, put simply if you cross collie with a greyhound, you should get half collie greyhound hybrids, since only two breeds are crossed. The permutation works out thus,if you have half collie greyhound hybrids, the remaining half will be 1/4 greyhound types and 1/4 collie types. It becomes more complicated if you use more than two breeds, you then have to start using the formula and it's permutations to work out exactly what you should end up with. collie x greyhound = 1/2 collie/greyhound hybrids other half of litter comprised of 1/4 collie types,1/4 greyound types This is how ferrets is showing the formula;using only the colie and greyhoud as an example; cxg = c cxg g meaning c is collie types, cxg is collie/greyhound hybrids g is greyhound types i think this is what ferrets is saying, correct me if i'm wrong, Higgins. hairyface 211
WHAT FERRETS IS SAYING IS TRUE, SOME PUPS WILL THROW TOWARDS THE GREYHOUND IN SHAPE AND ITS LITTER BROTHERS/SISTER MIGHT THROW TO A DIFFERENT SHAPE IE MORE COLLIE -FIED OR HAVE A MORE BULLY APPERANCE BUT NEVER THE LESS OLD TRAP COLLECTER WAS RIGHT WITH HIS PERCENTAGES, THEY WILL ALL BE THE SAME REGARDLESS OF LOOKING DIFFERENT Quote Link to post

Autumnbriar 0
odds are with the breeding still being 1/2 grey and only 5/16 collie, the litter will pull towards the grey......the rest of the numbers will add little to nothing Quote Link to post
jpt 284
if you crossed greyhound with whippet you would have 1/2 and 1/2 yeh? you keep back a dog and a bitch. if you then crossed deerhound with saluki you would also have 1/2 and 1/2 yeh? you keep back a bitch and a dog. if you then crossed the 2 longdogs together you would have a 1/4 of each breed yeh? if you used the dog from greyhound x whippet and crossed it with the bitch from deerhound x saluki would the results be the same as crossing a bitch from greyhound x whippet with the dog from deerhound x saluki? would they be totally different to the eye but very similar genetically? cheers, jon Quote Link to post
