springer. 59 yards grouping..

Recommended Posts

hey guys heres a 5 shot grouping, at 59 yards, with JSB exact 4.52 8.4gr from my hw97kt,

(from a sitting position leaning back against a tree using my knees to rest my hands on, to rest the rifle (seems to be comfy for me))

im not sure if its the best pellet for my barrel because i havent tested that many different types yet.. they seem to group slightly better than the Li's tho

also the rifle has only had about 5-600 pellets through it so far so is still bedding in.

would be quite interesting to compare my results at similar range to some of the other springer lads on here to see how much i can improve on my skills as a marksman, and how i compare to some of the great shooters i have seen on here and youtube.

i know si has just got a new 97kt and i asked davy to do me a grouping to compare myself to his shooting  .

ther seems to be plenty of springers on here so if you lads could take the time to add to this post with a few pics maby even vids aswell it would be much appreciated.

thanks again, SKoT :bye:

(oh and if your wondering where all the skin has gone from around my fingernails, blame the champions league penalty shootout! lol)

Awesome shooting there Skot!   Well done mate

Nothing wrong with a group this tight at such a range as this!   Well shot Skot! Good to see fellow spring rifle shooters showing the PCP lads a thing or two about spring rifle accuracy!   ATB

This is my grouping at 32yds after refurbing the TX200.... Ignore the flyer, that was me being over eager!!   I've also done a video of a 5 shot group on YouTube if you search for Marksm4n   Wi

Yes I agree that is a very nice group at 59 yards from a rifle that is not bedded in properly and potentially with a pellet that isn't the best for your rifles barrel.

Well in and good shooting Skot mate  .

I pick up my new springer today and then it has its depute on Friday down in Oxfordshire knocking a few rats off.

Will see what I can produce for you in a few weeks time Skot after I have sharpened up my shooting skills and calibrated the SR12 reticule finely.

In all honestly though I cant see me improving any on your group there.

Going off your photo its probably about a inch so very good for that range.

Just over 32mm grouping

with a springer at 60yards+/-1

Very, very sweet indeed Skott :victory: Tighten it up by 8mm and thats freaking amazing :notworthy:

I think I know of only 4 shooters capable of that (and all 4 are on this forum but doesn't include myself).

whoa cheers for the kind replys :D also it was outdoors but there was hardly any wind at all, thought id best add that .

im not trying to make excuses or anything like that, dont take me the wrong way, im not a very competitive person.

i was pretty happy with the grouping, i know its not up to scratch for hunting tho.

i wont be shooting vermin at that range tho just targets.

still need to practice a hell of a lot more tho, and bed the rifle in and find its preferred pellet.. then even more practice lol

me and my cousin were shooting at 25- 30 yards in the shed last week and with my rifle i was hitiing 5p sized targets almost every shot, but with his banged out old hw35 .22 they were going all over the place. id say the grouping was around 3 inches  think his gun just needs a bit of tlc lol

thanks again for the kind replys lads :victory:

hi Skot

I tried but I failed! at the 30 yd 5 shot group, tried to video it,but was feeling ill so will do another when I feel a bit better, plus the barrel needed a good clean as well.

was re leading the barrel yesterday with AA field 5.52 ,and hit an 8mm dia bell target 10/10 with the HW97 .22 but did nit film it at 20yds

then tried again for 2 hrs and could only manage 8/10,how frustrating but that's the beauty of the a spring rifle

Si & I meet up at the week end,and will see if we can do a 30yd group for you on video,as requested

nice groups buddy

nice one davy pal, and hope you feel better soon!,

dont mean to sound like a puff.. but im run down with hayfever starting to kick off again! :( ah well gotta keep soldiering on! lol

doesnt matter about it been on scopecam to be honest, mabye you and si taking it in turns with the camera?? lol.. showing you both firing a few shots from your favoured positions and whatnot. close up of them sexy hw97s aswell ;)

everybody seems to think it was a decent grouping that i shot so im fairly happy about it, and feeling confident aswell, which is always good.

one of my mates says "if you can hit bottom of a beer can, or a golfball, then you can hit a rabbit in the head".. i think theres more to it than that, id rather hit the ringpull everytime, or a bottle cap.. or a 10p.. but he thinks im a perfectionist haaha..

i still dont go for 60 yard bunnys tho.. 40y at a push to be honest. i like to get close as possible, but thats just me personally.. each to their own i suppose.

cheers pal and cant wait for the vids an stuff.... my 97 hasnt had a rat yet.. need to go find some more new permissions actually ..

hi Skot

I wouldn't listen to your mate! IMO he is irresponsible highlighted comment above

the size of a kill zone for the bunny is 25mm,to hit that consistent with a spring rifle at 60yds is bloody good going, I haven't tried it yet. and not sure I want to, I would say my max range I would be comfortable with would be 45/50yds at the moment.

would only try this 60 shot at targets at the moment.

took my first Bunny a couple of weeks ago at our club,a rabbit ran out amongst the targets on the zero range, and I could see its back leg was broken.so I asked permission of the club owner,if I should put it out of its misery, yes was his reply.

so a H&NFTT .22 was loaded in to the breach, it was just behind the 35yd zero board,.5 mil hold over THWACK ! straight to the back of the head.result first quarry taken with the .22 HW97KT can honestly say I was a bit hesitant because its been a while since I shot a .22 spring rifle.if I had the TX .177 no worries !

I think your right in only going for your limits, till more practise

regards

Davy
