heart of wales 19
Intresting thread worked for the biggest pest control company in the world then become training manager for the second biggest in britain.Decided to go it alone four years ago,if I had to rely on rabbit work alone would be sitting down three days a week . Pest numbers are increasing by the minute the different jobs a pestie can do are endless if you want to work and are willing to put your hand to most things, and have the tenacity to stick at a job to do it properly,so that people talk about you to their friends. Setting up First of all you need a vehicle to get to your calls, you need to set a good impression if you dont your competitors will,i.e. uniform overalls. Advertising people need to know about you. Training is an ongoing thing I regulary go on courses and learn something new they can also save you money .But courses do not come cheap Insurance is vital in this day and age where someone is always trying to claim of you Storage if you are going to make a living from it you will need alock up to store all your kit i.e poisons traps air rifle insecticides sprayers. Office you will need some kind of office to do the endless fking paperwork Round all that off and this is whee you hourly rates come in if yo have to pay for all that as I have to If all this does not put you of and you still want to start up there is plenty of work out there if you go and look for it ,all rabbits are not on farms Best advice I can give you is talk to the person whenever possible who is going to authorise or pay you. Ask them why they want rid of their pest problem Make your price realistic NEVER RIP ANYONE OFF always be able to explain your price ie what you are using how much it is costing. GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY WHAT YOUR DOING Quote Link to post
higgins 75
some good advice from everyone highlighting the 'unglamorous aspects' of the job,in truth i don't fancy it now,i fecking hate paperwork of any sort apart from reading or wiping my a*** with bog roll, and i certainly would be bored visiting factories(the very places i dread and wish to escape from!) to inspect traps etc; I suppose what i really want is plenty of permission for sport, with the added bonus of a few 'paid' jobs not full time to the point that it would destroy any pleasure gained from hunting,i think i will keep it for sport and pleasure now, life is boring enough if you can't have any fun hunting, the cardinal sin you could end up doing is turning something you enjoy into a 'routine chore'!All the best, Higgins.
