chris1wg 24
As I said in 1 of my other posts I want to get a semi auto, I got a rizzini o/u at the min but wana keep that for best ie clay shooting, I wana get the semi for hide/rough shooting something that might get knocked about a little, was speaking to my mate who reckons changing guns will affect my shooting is this true, also what are your thoughts on the semi autos and what one would you recommend don't wana brake the bank as it will be a rough shooting gun so may look into a second hand 1 any thoughts on some decent ones ??? Thanks Quote Link to post
countryboy 0
In my fairly modest experience Semi auto are not the norm for rough shooting and can be frowned upon by other guns that may be around you,due to the fact nobody else knows the gun is not loaded or safe(only you do). My local clay shoot has alot of semi and pumps but they must be flagged and slipped between stands and the organisers are hot on it too. I have used semi and quite like them generally feel lighter, less recoil and fairly cheap to buy. the ones i used where beretta. good luck with the search. Quote Link to post
jack68 628
I have an hatsan semi auto and would not swop it a very good gun to have in the hide, pluss nice and light to have a walk round with as well ....jack Quote Link to post
tillylamp 1,830
hi, i have a semi auto, and i really enjoy using it,i prefer it to my other shotguns, mine is a mossberg 9200 12g model, multi choke, and a 28inch barrel, just right for the hide/woodlands,and its really light in weight so its easy to walk around with, mine only likes heavier cartridges which it cycles well, but doesnt like the lighter loads, but still the recoil is low, as to different makes, there are quite afew, browning, beretta, winchester, hatsan, mossberg, remington, but i think alot of people would say the bennelli is the rolls royce of the semi autos, if i were you i would go and try a few and see how you get on,hope this helps in your choice, thanks tl Quote Link to post
COMPO 54
your mate is right. The more you shoot with one gun the better you will shoot........look at george digweed for example......he only ever uses that same old perazzi....whether at clays, game, vermin or when winning a world championship again and again Quote Link to post
remi700 99
Hard to beat an auto for that kina work. Very handy in a hide cause you need no room to break it. Cant beat a fabarm. In my eyes no other auto comes close! Atb Mark. Quote Link to post

Born Hunter 17,763
I bought my Beretta AL390 about 5 years ago second hand for £300 in pretty good nick. You should be able to get a 391 (it's younger sister) in very good condition for about £700. Quote Link to post
Hawkeye. 26
Stick to Beretta or Bennelli. There are cheap new auto's, you get [bANNED TEXT] u pay for. Buy a used Beretta or Bennelli instead. 1 Quote Link to post

jackinbox99 41
£500 may just about get you a beretta al391 like ive got. They hold their value incredibly well as they are excellent all round guns. For pigeons its one of the favoured weapons of choice. I use mine for clays and have had no problems, but you do get some people who are a bit funny about them. I think its more a case of trusting you rather than it being a semi. As for shooting..well its the same as anything, you get used to something and a change may affect how you shoot a little. Personally I love the semi. I can shoot one of my o/u`s for a few weeks and then going back to the semi its like getting out of a van and into a sports car. I find im quicker on the targets and more accurate. The lack of recoil and single barrel seem to help. Ive quite a few shotguns, but the al391 is one I always fall back on, and nearly always take it with me, even if im using one of my other guns. remi700 99
Keep an eye to guntrader.co.uk. £400-£500s a good budget. You should have no bother getting something for that. Personally id go for a better quality second hand gun rather then a cheaper new 1. Benneli or fabarm would be my choice. I've just never found a bereta auto that I liked (seem to make them very long in the stock) but that's just my opinion. My local gun dealer started stocking fabarms about 7-8 years ago. I bought 1 and the fella i shoot with bought 1 about the same time. since then 2 a my other friends have bought them. none of us have had a single problem with them to date. Was chatin the gun dealer recently and he says he's never seen 1 back for repair! Stoger is another make to look out for. There made by benelli based on the same inertia design but on a budget. Can be hard to get hold of but i've read good things about them. Atb Mark Quote Link to post
Daz 7 563
I've Got a Benelli M2, it had less than a box of carts through it as the the Bloke who owned it had shot side by side shotguns all His life and just couldn't get on with the M2 , Part exchanged My old Lanber for £320, Bearing in mind i paid £320 for it last year so didn't lose out on it . With the part exchange the M2 cost Me £525. I've gone through over 300+ cartridges without a jam or a missfire, Brilliant Semi and it's a Keeper. atvb Daz 7.
