The longer the course the better the dog, why??(Ireland)

Recommended Posts

Well, the last few years, it seems, the longer the dog courses a hare the better, over here in Ireland!

I hear tales of, O, this bitch ran her hare 6 mins, or that bitch ran her hare 4 mins ect ect, crazy long times, i wonder, as its over here, how much of the courses is seen???? :hmm:

At one time, if a bitch or dog, killed its hare quick and had stamina for a few turns, with consistancy, this was fine and a lot of lads over here were happy with that. Now it seems, with more saluki blood in the lines, lads are trying to achieve a drawn out course, up and down for mins on end?? Why??

Would like to hear from all the lads that have been coursing for a time, their opinions on this, here in Ireland, as this new thing of coursing for a long time, seems to be the fashion?? or am i wrong??

here we go lads .. cretin stone cold is our old friend markbrick .markbrick we all know what a lying dirty toerag he is .the same markbrick that sends people persistant pms threatening theyre kids and

how many have a stop watch on the job? 6 mins is probebly more like 3 /4 in reality

Seen plenty dogs last few seasons with 5\8 saluki or 3\4 doing stuff in ire regulary ill name a few huck for start this. Why I used him fantastic dog on any ground alfy 3\4 saluki done them for 3 seas

It's not fashion, it's called progress! The reason dogs of old (non saluki types) didn't chase a hare for 6 mins is because they couldn't! Some hares carnt be killed in under a minute, there just too strong. And these 6 minute dogs can kill them quick too, well the good uns can.

years ago ya would of been hunting with 3/4 bred dogs 1/2 bred dogs or lurcher to lurcher with no saluki in them at all hare jumps 60,70,80 yards time the dog gets to the hare its half burned out then you see the dog starting to fade away after a min,but you sometimes got the very rare exception were the we dog can do it,then ya had to give them a long break before the next slip, times have changed now all the weaker hares have been kiled of by the 3/4ers its strong hare breding with strong hare so you have to change tactics by using the ultimate coarsing dog the saluki and bred it to such a way that suits your needs and in most cases its to run hares for as long as its needed most of the saluki bred dogs can now do it very quick or if its in for the long hall so be it,and can catch ther breath back far quicker ready for the next run,,

Goodman in my opinion a long course dosnt mean dog a goodin if you running single handed if a dog can catch them quick you gona get more runs outa dog plus if you matchhing your in driving seat in dead winter when hares at there best if you have a good dog do the job quickly or can stick when needed to usually when you get long run with that dog you know the hare a goodin jmho

would much rather see a dog kill em quick, two or three twists and turns and then job done, up and at them like the dogs I used to have, whats the point of having a dog that takes 5/6 minutes, you,d need a feckin giro copter to watch the course cause it would be 3 mile away

U might as well shoot them 2or3turns the sport is about a goodhunt and kill if ur dogis good enough most of the action will be close enough to u

ya i have had fast up an at em types and its hard enough to see the whole course but if you get 1 with to much saluki in em you,ll not see a hunt . its getting the right mixture to suit the land youre on.
