My mate and his missus have just got a JRT puppy, it's 7weeks old and today we met them for a walk (they have a 3yr old JRT also) the puppy was always held and my mate went to hand him to me my 4yr old lurcher jumped up, grabbed the pup and ran approx 10yrds with it before realising her error and dropping him, she never shook him and never drew blood and personally I think she was intrigued as to what it was, maybe thought he was a toy and took the 1st opportunity she could for a look, my mate took the pup to the vet and all is fine, nothing broken just a little shaken up but none the worse for wear, what are your thoughts on this people? My missus and my mates are understandably upset and do not trust the bitch whatsoever although I'm pretty sure she didn't realise what it was to start with as if she had wanted to do serious harm she is more than capable.

Now to throw something else into the mix, the same bitch caught and killed a cat last week (the police and owner know) and it is causing people to Put 2 & 2 together and getting 7 thinking she is an evil bad bad bitch which she is not as she is the most laid back dog I have known or owned and it is completely out of character for her and I think it was circumstantial regardless if she had killed a cat last week she would have still done today what she done? I'm just looking for some feedback on the situation. Thanks

I wouldn't worry too much, like you say, if she had meant any harm she was more than capable  Just seems like she was curious.

Why did your mates carry a 7 week old pup around on a walk anyway?or have I read it wrong

Because it's not had it's jabs yet, and you know what women are like! IMO it shouldn't have even been there and the dog was put in that position by me/them, hands up I have to shoulder most of the blame, I should've let her see what it was from the off and have a good sniff, but due to what happened last week my mate was a bit wary about letting her too close, I reckon it's because it was elevated whilst in transaction she ceased the opportunity whereas if it had been on her level from the beginning she wouldn't ave bothered.

Greeting to get down and then wailing like a banshee afterwards, I was trying to tell them it was a frightened noise it was making not an in pain noise but they weren't for listening,

Well you've got a working dog and they've got a wriggling we pup f*****g squeaking away trying to get down of course your dog going to wonder what it is. Sounds like she grabbed it and realised what it was and let it go. Nothing wrong with that............could have been worse....

I suppose what I'm after is some sort of reassurance that I'm probably correct in saying that the 2 occurrences are probably not connected, and she probably would've grabbed the pup regardless of last weeks events?

my old bitch will put any pup that comes here in its place when she feels she needs to, its a pack thing although in this case i think your dog just wanted what was being held by someone and making a noise if any mallace had been intended then the pup wouldnt have been here now, and as for cats well shit happens never herd the saying fighting like cats and dogs

Not fussed about the cat mate, she's got a sore puss from that, the owner understands that dogs chase cats and what not, I'm more bothered about trying to prove to people the events are unconnected thus so far, is proving difficult. I tried explaining that to my mate and his last words before driving off were "but that's two in a week" which has f****d me right off.

Dogs chase cats it's a fact..my Spaniel got hold of the neighbours pet rabbit once..she soon dropped it when she realised what it was, Couple of weeks before that she killed a chicken - Doesn't make her an evil dog. your mate sounds like he needs to man up!

you know the bitch better than anyone bud and its all learned through experience with her, more than likely if were looking you would probably have noticed that she was interested in what your mate was carrying or if not that then the strange smell she may have been unfamiliar with,

it may never have happened if the bitch had been introduced to the pup, put it behind ya bud and learn from it, we need to be 2 steps ahead of then all the time , best of luck with her,

That's the thing mate I knew she was curious, my mate had him inside his jacket with just the head poking out she kept bouncing up and He allowed her to have a few small sniffs at him, she was intrigued and as soon as he pulled him out hiis jacket she took her chance for a closer look.
