The idea of a lurcher is to have the best of both worlds is it not?. A compromise. I dare say your Whippet won't work cover like my Whipplington and catch half the amount of rabbits my old fella as in

heres my we rabbiting bitch 19tts good we marker and worker and catches a few not the fastest but does her job got another two with a bit of greyhound in then and it does make a difference only 2 inch

No, you may be very proud of your dog, and I admire you for that, but I'd bring any Whippet I know, and race your dog and beat it !! Your dog's obviously a good dog for you, but please don't say she i

Yes there was a question there, im not out for a bitchy debate....

Why should debate be "bitchy" ? As I said, I love Beddy's and Whippets; but don't see the point in the cross ! I think the Beddy/Grey cross is far better, and would definately think of using a 1st cross Beddy/Grey over my 1st cross Deer/Grey. If anyone has a 1st cross Beddy/Whippet that can do a Lurchers job; then great ! But I've never seen one that can do owt bar a bit of ferreting and mooching !

Cheers.

I can lamp with mine, but he's not a first cross and is 22" TTS..

What cross is he Malt ?

Cheers.

He's just 3rd or 4th generation beddy/whippet Chart. My only wish was that there was a bit of greyhound blood in him at times though. He's not that slow but he does lack a bit of top end in the bigger fields. Could do with an injection of brains too, he's thick as f**k!:thumbs:

i have a beddy whippet and she is just as fast as a pure whippet i had her at raby castle last year an she done the dash thing in 5.1 secs and only done it a coupe of times and the fastest that day was 4.94secs and that was a grew plus you tend to get tougher skin than a pure whippet so not as many cuts mine is 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy 20tts and i only use mine for lamping 2 or 3 times a week she catches just as many as my friends lurchers that are between 24 and 27 inches great little dogs

There you go mate !! You said it ! The Beddy/Whippet is a handy wee dog, but by Christ, they could do with a bit of Greyhound blood ! I'm not knocking these wee dogs... they are full of Vim and Fire.....but they can't do owt their parents can do, (better) !

Cheers.

id class a real lurcher as a dog that could take a wide variety of game(preban ofcourse lol), id class beddy whippets as rabbiting lurchers if ye wanna start labeling things, i think what cp is trying to say tho is put a beddy/whppet against a 23/24/25 inch dog on the lamp on diffrent terrain an ye will soon see the diffrence between the 2
