The idea of a lurcher is to have the best of both worlds is it not?. A compromise. I dare say your Whippet won't work cover like my Whipplington and catch half the amount of rabbits my old fella as in

heres my we rabbiting bitch 19tts good we marker and worker and catches a few not the fastest but does her job got another two with a bit of greyhound in then and it does make a difference only 2 inch

No, you may be very proud of your dog, and I admire you for that, but I'd bring any Whippet I know, and race your dog and beat it !! Your dog's obviously a good dog for you, but please don't say she i

Here's a paradox for you...I love Bedlingtons and Whippets; but I've never fancied a Beddy/Whippet cross ! Can they do something what a pure Beddy or Pure Whippet can't ?

Cheers.

Well a straight Beddy wont catch you many rabbits and a straight Whippet won't work the cover like a beddy....................................

Well, that's what I mean, mate... A Beddy will bush, ferret, go to ground. A Whippet will ferret, lamp and take a few day time. A Beddy/Whippet won't go to ground like a Beddy, catch as many rabbits daytime or on the lamp as a Whippet, so what's the advantages of a Beddy/Whippet x over a pure Beddy or Whippet ? A Beddy x Whippet WON'T do what it's parents will do..it may do a job, but imho, won't do it as good !

Only set back ive seen with alot of beddy/whippets is the poor coats a lot seem to have. I was out with a fella last season and he was working a cracking little bedlington whippet and a pure whippet. It had been pissing it down all morning and his beddie/whippet was freezing its nutts off, its coat just soaked up the rain. In all fairness it didnt stop it working one bit, the whippet on the other hand had no coat and wasnt shivering half as much as the beddie/whippet.

But isnt that stating the obvious, like a collie/greyhound vs a collie and greyhound or saluki/greyhound compared to a saluki and a greyhound.

Daft question if you ask me.

OK, a Beddy/Whippet is a handy wee dog for a bit ferreting or bushing. But if you want a dog to go to ground, this isn't it ! If you want a dog for lamping, you are better off having a pure Whippet ! As I said.. I love both breeds, and would probably have a Beddy'Whippet as a house cur or part of a Bobbery Pack, but I wouldn't get one as a first choice Lurcher ! Simply not good enough, there are far better choices; and this from a man who's best dog ever is 1/4 Beddy !!

Well, there wasn't a question there... And when was discussion and debate "daft" ?

I can understand your point.... , just float some peoples boat, and i totally agree there are better out there if you are just wanting one dog for day and night. My new pup is bed/whip x collie/grey/whippet, shes only a small 17 inch at 6 months, but she will work with my 2 jack russells and my aging collie/greyhound. If i was only to have one lurcher i would have choosen differently.

Yes there was a question there, im not out for a bitchy debate....

Why should debate be "bitchy" ? As I said, I love Beddy's and Whippets; but don't see the point in the cross ! I think the Beddy/Grey cross is far better, and would definately think of using a 1st cross Beddy/Grey over my 1st cross Deer/Grey. If anyone has a 1st cross Beddy/Whippet that can do a Lurchers job; then great ! But I've never seen one that can do owt bar a bit of ferreting and mooching !

Cheers.

i have a beddy whippet and she is just as fast as a pure whippet i had her at raby castle last year an she done the dash thing in 5.1 secs and only done it a coupe of times and the fastest that day was 4.94secs and that was a grew plus you tend to get tougher skin than a pure whippet so not as many cuts mine is 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy 20tts and i only use mine for lamping 2 or 3 times a week she catches just as many as my friends lurchers that are between 24 and 27 inches great little dogs
