Millet 4,497
Me personaly i would want my pup's retrieving/recall an most important of all the stock breaking sorted out long before the pup ever get's entered on a rabbit..they all grow a differant rate's an the bigger dog's being slower to hit full size..while out exercising the pup you should be able to see it tightening up and running a lot stronger with a less gangly look to it as the week's fly by... Personaly i would just consentrate on the training for now and come august/september time your pup will be more than capable of being entered..good luck.. 3 Quote Link to post

To true training a young dog to good standard can take almost a year. It's all about time and patients. 2 Quote Link to post

lamping lurcher 2 1
whippet x greyhound with a broken coat? thats what i was told the breed was when i purchased him i was able to see the mother of which he came from she was a bluey grey colour and short haired he says she was a greyhound and the father was supposed to be a whippet i really am still a beginner with lamping my own dog but have been lamping for the past couple of seasons with folk i know and they let me have a go with their dogs to see if i liked it and i liked it so thought it was time to make a go of it myself. chartpolski 23,322
Broken coated "Whippets" were fairly common many years ago, but I doubt if they are ever seen now. It looks like the breeder wasn't being completely honest with you, but that doesn't mean the pup won't turn out to be what you want ! To the people who are recommending "droppers", don't you realise it's ilegal, and classed as "baiting"??? Just what the anti's and the RSPCA want to read on here !! Cheers. blackmaggie 3,376
i would get him rock steady with all his training first stock/recall etc i have seen dogs ruined by not having all the basics in place he will be with you for life so why rush him and holding him back will do no harm just take your time make it enjoyable and if he starts to get bored end the session and on a good note if you can try and get some books dvds or info of the net about training lurchers atb with your training Edited May 21, 2012 by blackmaggie 1 Quote Link to post
