lapin2008 1,587
the sire to mine was raven his dam is wilow Nice, Is willow a dh/gh then and does she also go back a few gens? I am pretty happy with mine to be honest, he was a very slow starter in some ways and seemed very aloof/thick/difficult to bond with but all is starting to fall into place nicely now, still too soon to know what he will be like work wise but he is busting to get at stuff now. Incredibly fast as well, he just needs to learn to use his gears or will just turn into a walking vets bill Quote Link to post
Guest born to run1083
My opinion is he's one of the reasons for the Demise of the deer/grey, bred for money and no other motive. A close friend did have a good un but that was the only one out of 4 he's had from Platts over the years and I'm telling ya this man is no stranger to his dogs. He will never go back there and he said the last 3 dogs from there was the biggest waste of time. I think he's got cookland stuff now and seems happy again Quote Link to post

But the stories I heard at the time about cooklands setup/dogs at the time were worse than what I could find out about platts so I went with that. I have no opinion really on which is good, bad or indifferent. Mine will be judged on his own merits as an individual dog and if he is not up to it then so be it. However, going on the way he is now at 1 year old I would be very surprised if there is anything in this country i could put in front of him that would cause him any problems Quote Link to post

Marvel 471
Think i may have a bitch out of the same litter as lapin2008, took a long time to house train it's also aloof and standoffish ( if that a word) but had her chops on some gear and she's as keen as f**k. Quote Link to post

Thats the problem I had when getting this one. You either get one from someone who regularly has pups in or you wait and hope you can find one thats working properly but nowadays thats likely to be hit and miss whether you find one. Even the other breeders I was introduced to that had an occasional litter seemed to be pretty much having the odd litter more to cater for pet market then anything. Quote Link to post

How old is it mate? Mine is very close to a year and came from barnsley area. The house training was a fooking nightmare, I only bonded with him when he was about 7 months until that he was only ever interested in the older dog. He wasnt interested in the slightest in chasing anything only on jumping on other dogs. But now has clicked and is busting to run, bonded well, very obedient etc etc.. am happy with him now but he came very close to expiring my patience Quote Link to post
Marvel 471
Hi lapin she's a year old, got her from wee guy down barnsley she's 25in black brindel rough coat she's bonded with my older bitch but still not 100% with me, pulling my hair oot at times but still plenty of time like to wait to the dh crosses are at least two, but think she'll be fine. cheers Quote Link to post
lapin2008 1,587
That will be the same litter, I had the choice of the final 2, mine is 28" now and has settled some what now and bonded etc. Very awkward dog to train though very sensitive with people but heavy handed/boisterous/full on with other dogs, pic was taken about a month ago Edited May 18, 2012 by lapin2008 Quote Link to post

My dogs sire is Raven who is 5-6 generation dh/gh back to a grey owned by someone else who had used raven as stud. At the time I got mine there were lots of pups around by raven but he was 14 years old, I thought all the bitches he kept were also dh/gh and several generations in but its best if someone thats seen his set up comments.. cheers Quote Link to post
