MINSHAW .....

Great thread this does don have more than half collie then? How's his speed I had a 5/8th collie she was a nice bitch just never got to test her as she died at one and a half. You have had some cracking dogs by the looks of it andy a great line of lurcher.

Yeah he's over 1/2 Collie mate bred back to a lurcher lol..not even a Grey  ..his speed his ok without obviously being an exocet missile :D ,he has caught more gear in the day then probably every lurcher i've owned in 30 odd year put together  ..he just seems to always be in the right place if there's anything about? Obviously his main job for us is lamping and he's coming along very nicely in that sphere, had some cracking hauls already and i'm sure we ain't seen the best of him yet? He did crack a bone in his hind leg as a youngster and you always have it in the back of your mind that it could become troublesome as time goes on so we are gonna make hay while the sun shines so to speak :victory: ..he will NOT be wrapped up in cotton wool, even he wouldn't want us to do that,he's the type of dog who gives 110% on EVERY thing he runs,if he has to be carried out on his shield then so be it? To be honest the way the law is now i cannot understand how and why not dogs of similar breeding ain't more popular as for ferreting and your general rabbit control they are a hardy, trustworthy companion who can do a bit of tracking etc on bigger gear if need be? ATB Andy. :victory:

I wasn't ever going to comment on this thread ever , I wasn't prepared to say anything about the breed or the men although I've seen a few run and know a lot of the men mentioned including victor gh

I did manage to find a single photograph all be it not a great one. Can't really remember the night but the blue bitch in the picture belonged to my old mate from Workington.   The Handsome guy in

Also Andy what was the best shift you had back then single handed with the old stuff on the coneys ? Cheers  Atb

Firstly Freelance,in truth mate although i obviously had half decent bags of bunnies with my dogs from the older generation of Minshaw dogs i never really went hell bent on going for the type of bags that Vic did,i was more interested in the hares, they brought decent £££ where a bunny was a ten bob job lol,my dogs all killed into the 40's with little fuss, the Bulpa dog when just a young dog killed 46 rabbits and 5 hares and i'm sure he'd og got into the 70's quite easily? ...as for Don storm323 well he's just about the same as my old dog,he's done over 40 several times and were it not for flat batteries or other mishaps ie: lack of bunnies he'd be well up on that imo,i think if the bunnies are abundant this upcoming season and i can have him in the kind of condition i had him towards the end of last season i'd not be surprised if he gets up into the 70's or possibly even 80's? His 1/2 sister Venus which Tomo owns caught 53 at the end of December and she had any amount left in the tank, she hadn't even broke sweat as daft as that sounds although it's bound to have taken some kind of toll on her after 65/70 runs you would think? Now that hares are off the agenda for us hunters i'm keen to see what kind of numbers these mutts can account for when it comes to bunny bashing? ATB Andy. :victory:

Andy...this is what i want from Xena this season coming. I haven't got the land for huge bags of bunnies, but i did manage bags of 20 's and 30's last season on plenty of occasions and this year i really want to test her to the fullest. I just need to get out there and put the gear in front of her.
