Andy how did you meet Vic and did you run with him for long or did you do your own thing??

 

When did he pack up his dogs and lamping?? Was Blue his most well known lurcher or did he own other great dogs??

I 1st met Vic when i was just in my early teens,i had a rough haired lurcher at the time which looking back in hindsight was about as much use as a glass eye :laugh: ,i bought it for £20 from a lad in the Bluebell Inn at Embleton near Cockermouth,she was in adulthood and lord only knows how old it was? I used to tag along with the older lads who could drive and go to Vic's and listen in to the stories that to me at that given time just sounded like fairy tales...i just done my own thing in the main Giro,seen old Blue running plenty though and done a good bit of game in with his Vic's son Shaun,he got a dog off me called Growler bred out of Bulpa & Jess,it was a real handy dog and lot's of lads who seen all manner of dogs run including the best of that era reckon that Growler was on par with them all? Vic packed in the lamping game back in the 90's,even after Blue had passed he had a cracking little bitch called Whizz out of him,my mate who lives along the road from me confirmed to me as he was bagman she caught over 100 bunnies running solo,her dam was called Dusty and bred out of a bitch called Sandy the litter sister to the little black bitch called Kes whom i bred out of Bulpa and the same bitch also took 28 hares one night with a dog who was litter brother to Shaun's dog Growler so again out of Bulpa and Jess,unfortunately the dog broke his leg while jumping a gate when seemingly having a fruitful career lying ahead? Vic sold his bitch for £800 to a chap in Lancashire but it never got to see the work it once had? It was then that Vic got into the coursing dogs..some of the lads slightly older than myself say that Blue's sire was a fantastic dog,it only got to see the lamp in it's later years but they say it was every bit as good as Blue?...i can't comment because i only seen the dog when it was retired living in the house..it was an old b*****d lol...ATB Andy.

And as of today these are two of our mutts which are descendants of some of the dogs i've mentioned in earlier posts..both have Minshaw's Blue as their great grandfather via their sire Jack..Swift & Don

This bitch was doing really really well and i am of the opinion that she might very well of been the best lurcher to come out of our kennels...i NEVER seen her knackered no matter how much gear she ran,she was a wee machine,didn't mind a set of pearly whites,she just thrived on work,she was my lads bitch Ginny which Joe Ox kindly gave us at 9 month old after a bitch we had got ran over and killed running a daft bloody hare..she was going to make a BIG name for herself i'm convinced of that but things went pete tong and that was the end of that...sick as parrots we were but hey ho on we go...ATB Andy.

This is one of the latest bred down from the long line...it's one of Don's offspring,doing really well this past season,fingers crossed they continue to please their owners...

 

 

 

and well i know Tomo doesn't really call his bitch Venus one or the other really? (Minshaw or Coursing Bred) but nevertheless has Minshaw blood in her and she is a really good bitch,i seen her catch 53 bunnies (i had to carry the feckers) and she honestly didn't have a blow in her,i think she would of easily amassed 70/80..she won't be 3 until the 1st of July so all being well we just might see some improvement yet from her if thats at all possible?

PP22 what best dog you have had????Is there one that stand out

 

A dog called Bulpa was the best i've had imo..but having thought plenty about it if i had him today i'm not so sure if i would be saying the same thing? I had the dog in the mid 's and still running hard 10 year later but i was out a hell of a lot back then and i mean a lot! I ran the dog wherever there was an abundance of game and i do mean ANYWHERE lol,nowadays though things are so different,my age for one thing i was young,keen,eager and darn right bloody daft back then..not anymore though ..it's always difficult to compare dogs from different generations imo,there was lots of gear to run back then too,now one flash of a lamp and the quarry is off,almost everywhere these days the game has been well educated to the lamp? As i said a few posts back,that bitch we had called Ginny was pretty darn impressive if i say so myself..i've had some real handy mutts over the years which have put some game to bed so to speak but the dog which caught the most by a long chalk was the Bulpa dog..he got the graft and put behind the most gear of all my dogs but fairplay to him he came up with the goods when asked to do so .
