chartpolski 24,320
They have been bred for generations to do a totaly different job to a Lurcher, so what possible advantage could they, Pointers, bring ? Cheers. Collies/ Bedlington terriers and sundry other dogs have been bred to do totally different jobs to a lurcher for generations yet they are added and bring qualitys to a lurcher line. What do pointers bring?, leg, nose, stamina and to be honest compared to a lot of lurchers I've seen, brain. And aren't there pleanty of tried and tested, for generations, breeds that bring leg, nose stamina to the "Lurcher" table, such as Deerhound, Saluki, etc ? I'll ask again. What will a Pointer bring to the table that recognised breeds can't ?? Cheers. Quote Link to post

Before we all go off on one sit back and think, no deerhound or saluki has the nose of a pointer, fact. No deerhound or saluki has the brain of a pointer, fact. Stamina, well there are different types, deerhounds I wouldn't equate with stamina, salukis running wise will have more stamina, but in an overall days hunting a pointer cross would be as capable. They have good feet and I've seen pointers kill foxes whilst I've seen many deerhounds and salukis refuse them. You use their pointing ability as a fault and to an extent your right for I would want any lurcher I owned to lift rather than point, but to be honest in thirty odd years I've seen tons of lurchers bred many different ways point their prey and not a drop of pointer blood in them.
