FUJI 17,327
Jess and Kes just as youngsters after an early morning trip ...a wee tale about the Border terrier you can just see in the back ground behind Jess ...one day we were out with the lurchers and terriers and the dog here decided to go to ground,he wasn't a good "earth" dog infact he wasn't very good at anything to be honest ...anyways he's down below and we can hear him baying away and after a wee while out the dog comes looking in an absolute daze,he walked towards us staggering and we noticed he had something attached to him and trailing behind as we checked to see what it was the dog had only had his testicle chewed off and the entrails from it were trailing a foot or more behind him ..so my mate who owned him just stood on it and picked up the dog ,the dog never murmered ,we took him to the vets where he had it sewn up but was now just an oddball ...over the next week or so we got a little permission off a farmer who actually was closely linked to the Cumberland Farmers Foxhounds at Caldbeck home to the legendary John Peel,he had lost several lambs in just a couple of nights to a fox/foxes and asked if we could sort the problem as he knew where the earth was and it was "guaranteed" to hold ..the earth was only a field away from his farm so off we went let the Border off the leash and "he bolted" ..NO FECKING WAY was he EVER gonna go back underground ...to cut a long story short my little Russell Meg done the due and we dispatched 3 foxes from the earth...suffice to say the Border was away to a pet home with a guy who done kids partys and dressed up as a clown, the dog was his sidekick at those events haha...saying that i wouldn't of went into the black dark in an enclosed space after i'd had a knacker removed and my mates field hospital treatment wasn't exactly text book ...ATB Andy. bunnys 1,228
Cheers Simo ,that old bitch i had was the cleverest dog i've EVER encountered in my life, feck it could do everything but talk ..it was my mothers house dog but it tagged along ..if i left her she would often track me atleast 7/8 miles from home ,i could see maybe a field or two away her nose down scenting me ..i used to take her with the lamp now and again just round the doors ...caught plenty of bunnies although they weren't for human consumption after she'd nabbed them ..mullered foxes and other critters and was brilliant in real thick cover for flushing Roe and by god if she ever got the chance to get a bit of Roe hide in her jaws ...are the Belgian Shep's a better option then Simo for lurcher breeding and do they get the hip problem? ATB Andy. mmmh ya knows andy fella my first alli type wasa collie xs ,and he was the same my mar would a keep him tethered but he still found us several hrs lata and yes he turned his nose up at nought game wise .atb bunnys. bunnys 1,228
Interesting stuff there regarding the German Sheps ,they are dogs i've often thought would make a useful addition in a lurcher, possibly not these though as some of these ain't the quickest to start with ..but i think Simo said put to a quality coursing type they could certainly add that little "something"? and i would agree with that ..that dog SMART DOG put up is a corker and was obviously a bag filler as he said ...on the hip problem that the German Shep's are renowned for is that something they can pass on when outcrossed or is it just when bred to another German Shep? ..i had an Alsation x Collie years ago and by feck it would kill ANYTHING she had a jaw on her like a crocodile and would destroy a hedgerow in pursuit of quarry ...this isthe old girl here ..needed Tess to catch this but Tess was just an arse grabber but when the cavalry arrived ...good night vienna has simo says imported working stock or aworking animals with imported blood close in the lines , are a must when breeding from sheperds on the hp problem seen in todays modern animals the sheperd s are only one of the very many breed types that cansuffer this afflication , the border collie his also a breed that suffers with the problem . i suppose we have more to thank the greyhound than one thinks . atb bunnys. 1 Quote Link to post

He had ago at some scrap blokes once, and bit the one bloke in the arm right mess .! the way i see it a good gsd x to good grey , you will have good(brain, guts, stamina, agilty) from the gsd, and plenty of speed + pace from a good grey. Iknow its been said to use a coursing dog, but i dont think you need it gsd will give the other qualitys you need to catch most game in the uk in the lamp, and thats what i do most of the time. Ive always thought that the less breeds in a dog the better, at least you know with 2 breeds you deff know what your getting aye and if you go down the best to best policy over future generations ray , they can only come better. like most else . atb bunnys.
