chartpolski 23,847
Well thanks for your opinion CP yes, minshaws are reknowned for their stamina, but imagine putting in even more stamina But would you risk trading, almost certainly, some speed, for a bit more stamina in a line allready renowned for it's stamina ? Cheers. Quote Link to post
poacher28 120
Whats not broke dont need fixing in my opinion.... i think the lads with the minshaw dogs are doin a good job of maintaining the strain crossing working lurchers with working lurchers ending in a good result so it seems. so the need for introducing husky or alike is way beyond me. just my opinion 2 Quote Link to post

Simoman 110
The Minshaws seen capable of putting in a damn good night on the bunnies and it appears 50/60 and more are attainable, i think other qualities would be looked at rather than more stamina? Lets be honest, how many of us could find 60 rabbits a night to run? Quote Link to post

BLACKWATER... 157
max joking a side i would rather put a fast coursing type dog over my lurcher than a pure greyhound , i done it last year rex to mhirn and there no plodders ,and run clever even as pups ,but i do believe the way you think breed of champions better chance to get champions,if your just chaseing rabbs most collie lurcher will do, its when you travel to diffrent ground you soon see how things go and how dogs get out classed at times, alot of hangers on in these threads most not traveld far and wide on allsorts to tell a good dog from a bad one , all they do is sit on the band wagon there more to life than the dales cumbria, in the hunting game ,once you have run allover daytime nite time you start looking at dogs in a diffrent perspective , this cachting lots of rabbs game , some areas now havent got the rabbs and game of twenty years ago but doesnt make them worse dogs ,youle not beat good arable land for sport but not massive bags at times ,i think there more to life than bickering about a few colie lurchers and well the guy who started the breed minshaw he must laugh at all the hangers on argueing his breed when he has none his self ,see you soon minsher lad Edited June 18, 2012 by BLACKWATER... TOMO 26,236
i dont think theres any need for a husky type dog to be added,,,like has been said,, they have plenty staminar in there now.... but had andy mated jack to a husky instead of the collie to get don,,,i dont think the reuslting pups would have been any slower than don and his litter mates............would have been an intresting experiment,, thats for shure Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,327
Whin myself personally I'd never been to the Dales until 4 year ago,I done the majority of my hunting up North in the Lothian areas and Dumfriesshire and that was for both rabbits and hares, when I say I caught thousands of hares up there I'm talking in excess of ten thousand,no big deal, the fields are a mixture of pasture, arable and moorland and I wasn't selective as to what and which fields I let the dogs run in,if there was gear in it would have it's wits tested, let's not go down the collie can't catch stuff again, trust me mate they did,I only lamped mine and I wouldn't say different,no some of them wouldn't of touched a hare in the day but I don't recall ever saying they would? BLACKWATER... 157
i it would be pull the sledge up the hills then cacth the rabbits lol talking to a few pure husky owners was saying when we went visiting family in canada we went to an inuit camp to see husky types nice working dogs the pure bred woman said there not huskys there just bred of any type that does the job , i says at least there doing what they are bred for not prancing round a show ring and bein pretty ,saw som ehusky lite and racy good enough for breeding to a lurcher but you maybe get barkers on the chase as they are pretty exitable ,enough dogs about without experiments , Quote Link to post

FUJI 17,327
Tomo when you look at some of the pics of dogs like Traveller and even my Kelsey bitch they had the same eyes as a Husky lol...I don't know any other type of dog with an "eye" like that? It's maybe already in there somewhere? ATB Andy Quote Link to post
BLACKWATER... 157
we had the collie type years ago andy but couldnt hack it mate on hare after hare in the day or nite driving stubble after stubble thats why we put the finest coursing dogs to good collie crosses ,and the less collie the better eighth, more chance of mugging hares on lamp early doors ,get them jan feb even in lamp mate after they have had a birl or two you need a real handy dog andy i mean bring a dog in winter youll see and if they do well im the first one to shake mans hand as the seasom moves on the game gets more wiser but more sporting ,we run single handed as yo get cleaner kills etc best sport youlle ever get mate ask old bird who stayed for a few nites ,some great sport Quote Link to post
