MINSHAW .....

Recommended Posts

The Jess bitch was slightly flat footed redcharge and had a bit of a twisted leg which may or may not be noticeable? She never had feet problems in her life, her problems were rips and tears, her leg deformity was caused by herself as a pup she dug a fecking hole in my parents garden and was coursing around as pups do and stepped in the darn hole and twisted the bone! The vet never done anything with it apart from a twist and pull and just said it would be ok? To be fair it never stopped her in anyway, she could run and was a good tight runner but if you look closely she does have one front leg twisted from just above her wrist... the Patch dog was also never bothered with feet bother just as time wore on he got the old wrist soreness after a hard shift...ATB Andy

I wasn't ever going to comment on this thread ever , I wasn't prepared to say anything about the breed or the men although I've seen a few run and know a lot of the men mentioned including victor gh

I did manage to find a single photograph all be it not a great one. Can't really remember the night but the blue bitch in the picture belonged to my old mate from Workington.   The Handsome guy in

some dogs if hurt young can recover as they grow into it others as older well get hamperd after a hard nite or if the grounds baked and dry ,most good coursing hunting dogs have a stile and are pretty well balanced for the game in hand especaily if they do alot of running , deformities etc well get found out if the qaurries testing at times ,found the nearer to the greyhound up my way the more feet problems wristy etc , if out a lot ,and heavy dogs seem to take a bit of a pounding as there carrying alot more muscle ,and weight ,its a hard game to breed dogs to have pace good feet stamina for long running duals in day or nite and keep sound ,yolle not beat colie feet or saluk feet for running dogs

no truer word ever said work picks out the deficencys in any animal, i am a believer the very best do seem to overcome problems has they grow in to ther own has a good un seem to beable to overcome poor early handling etc. mixed breeding types with several and more breeds together his possibly going to throw odd deformities , keeping it simple will and does seem to keep genetical faults at bay . atb bunnys.

Andy this line for sure has stood the test of time and obviously you've kept it tight to a degree with breeding best to best but off top of your head how many have been on the other spectrum as in any line you get the good and the bad. Has there been many honestly that you can remember that stand out to ya

To be honest mate just like any types i think there is far more "average/bad" then good/really good un's whether that is to do with the dogs themselves or the owners i wouldn't like to say?...of the ones i've had i can honestly say there is only two which never made it,one i took in as an adult and the other which i bred myself, the rest were all handy enough or atleast i was happy enough to own  ...ones that stood out to me as good dogs were the Nigger dog,a real tryer never knew when he'd had enough ;) ...the Rambo dog owned by my best mate,he was a topper too although i will say and my mate would tell you the exact same thing it never had the stamina to match my Bulpa dog,yes it had more than plenty enough but if things turned into a real war then there was only one dog gonna keep on going  ..the Rambo dog actually pulled up on a hare one night when we were out with it and Blue of Vic's..to be honest it was just a one off,i never seen or heard of it ever doing it again :hmm: ..injured maybe? but my opinion is the dog was just fecked we had took over 500 hares already that season in a short time and i think the dog needed a wee rest? The Chester dog was a tool, seen dogs with more wind but by feck he looked impressive in his work he had that touch of class about him..a dog called Growler that Vic's son Shaun owned bred out of Bulpa x Jess was a very good runner too, another dog the same way bred called Nipper which broke it's leg was also going places but sadly had his life cut short..others which i would class as "stand out" would of been that little bitch Kes and also the Ginny bitch....obviously Minshaw's Blue had that "aura" about him,Traveller was just a young dog when we were working him and we never really put him to the sword so on him i couldn't really comment? ...I've had one or two that were canny grafters..the Bulpa dog being imo the best i've had,his son Patch and also another son Jack..all proven grafters and had longevity in the field...A lad who's sadly died called Gary C had some good grafters too his dogs were also called Blue and Kes they put a lot of gear to bed,i ran with him and those dogs aplenty...ATB Andy.

feet one of the most important thing good tite up on there toes but strong bone without good tyres and the brain to go with it ,nothing worse than weak wristed dogs with fine feet , some of the pics of minshaws ive saw have a decent a mount of bone round the wrists something that i look for when running dry arable land as the get well chewd if your not careful, never been a lover off flat footed dogs ,most top dogs had good strong upon there toes feet as they were fit and conditioned ,colie and saluk have some of the best feet ever for running dogs pretty indestructable at times, same with afew deerhound crosses ive saw

see i think minshaws that ive seen have very gud big tight feet ring me 01228 597394 aaron
