birddog 1,354
No way were they day dogs Ray ..not for hares anyway ..they caught a few here and there,on occasions a couple but never regular it just wasn't their niche to be honest ...i'd bet that Bryn would kill plenty of other gear Ray on fields more suited to his type rather than big open land? ATB Andy. yeh its funny andy, ive took him to alot of differnt places ,and he gets real good bags of rabbits, best bag was 28 from 32 runs, and even on harder ground still will get 90% of whats there. But them bigger rabbits he seems to think if he aint got them in 2-3 turns he dont bother, strange aint it because i know he could if he really wanted to . like i said on the phone ray it horses for courses, jazz is much the same, sure she's had golf course and arable bags but put her on harder ground, moorland or sand dunes and she's a different animal for sure, and maybe because they know they can do it on that ground they give that bit more. we really will have to sort out a wee trip out with them both mate 1 Quote Link to post

Simoman 110
Andy, would yu consider adding, or rather would you of considered adding imported shepherd into the mix? I don't mean the show or pet shit, but imported stuff. Mine were physically sound, agile, good feet and coat, prey drive and a surprising amount of blow.......... 1 Quote Link to post

Shame you didn't put yours across simo would of been a nice type i aint arguing here just making a few points, do you think it makes the difference on pet/import/show... just with the collie into our DON she is a guttsy bitch, with tackling cows on the fellside. and when the going gets tough with don, he keeps going and going and going! i just couldn't imagine the same thing if he was out of some old womans little collie.. BUT then again Bulpa was just that and was out of the neighbours collie and he had a heart of a lion. so again it could be the dog has the minerals or it hasn't, or is it the kind of pure bred used??? another question seen as though Don is lurcher x collie this kinda makes him a good example, do you think that we would have a "better" dog if JACK lined a shepard bitch? just some genuine questions for yas, Quote Link to post

The ones i kept had very high drive Jamie, and just as importantly tested hips, the breed average was 19, mine were 4. Mine had amazing noses, the black one was a competition dog and we won organised comps against the bloodhound club of GB and won over 3 mile competition tracks. He was trained to ignore all ground game and scent but his son, in the photo with him i actually worked on the lamp, a couple of members on here saw him work, he used his nose to good effect when bushing and pegging pheasants and i'd say he had more wind than some of my lurchers Nice tight feet, very trainable, biddable and not much of a back foot Both dogs were capable of 14ft long jump, 7 scale and clearing five bar gates. On the negative side, they aren't dogs that can just sit in a kennel with no stimulation, they need a lot of exercise and mine also tended to be one man dogs who boned closely with me, not a problem for me as my dogs go nowhere but could be a negative point with todays chop and change knob(not you fellas). The truth is most people haven't seen a decent shepherd, the good ones are kept and actually used for something, mainly working trials or schutzhund etc, even most police shepherds are shit. The litter i bred consisted of 8 dogs and a bitch, the bitch is still working cattle on a farm in the north west, the rest are still active police dogs with three forces and the rest are competing sport and security dogs. As for wheather Jack lining a shepherd would of been better, i wouldn't give it a second thought as what you guys have produced is doing the job perfectlyy Born to run my plan was to stick him over a bitch but it never happened as i was always fully stocked, and he was PTS last year so its all redundent now....
