FUJI 17,327
Aye them moggies can be "problematic" to say the least?..i try and have mine broke to them if at all possible these days after all they are more than likely someones pets BUT accidents are inevitable at times so all you can do is try to minimise the chances of the "deed" from happening ..keep em under close control for the most,on a leash in urban areas etc: ..i've had bother with the law over one many years ago while i was out hunting in a wood and one happened to be unlucky enough to be on a hunting trip at the same time ...thats another story for another day though ...ATB Andy. 1 Quote Link to post

Had my fair share of moggie trouble with my old minshaw, i was walking him at back of our old house as a pup he was eight month old. I was on a farm track and my pup was loose and a cat bolted in front of my pup, he gave chase and followed it over the wall with me shouting at him to stop to no avail. Next i heard contact and he jumped back over the wall with it in his mouth just as the farmer and herdsman turned the corner in a 4x4. It ended up getting a bit heated and a scuffle broke out, nether the less that was the first thing he ever caught and was a tw*t with them for ever after. Another time the fecker nailed another one on my mates street and that one got me in court with a £580 bill. So now i try and brake all my dogs to cats if i can to save the bother, as my old dog was the very devil with them and its just not worth the myther. Cheers Atb 1 Quote Link to post

FUJI 17,327
Kes,this little bitch probably had as much staying power as any dog of any breed/type that i have ever seen, she was the smallest pup in her litter and without a shadow of doubt was the best by far.She only stood just a shade over 22 inch..I can always remember an occasion when a well known lamping man from our area wanted to see her run as he had heard all sorts of stories about her,we took her out and running solo where she ran quite a few hares on a disused airfield with no hedges, ditches or anything to aid her in her work, she caught 14 hares and i can remember one particular course that turned into a real grueller and the guys words were (it's a fu***ng double hander) meaning he had to hold the lamp with two hands (long before the plastic light weight lamps),i don't see the guy who we took that night to often but when i do he nearly always speaks of that night with (the double hander) and little Kes if we are talking lurchers. She was IMO one of the best lamping bitches i have ever seen, she was bred out of Bulpa and her blood runs in many of the dogs carrying the Minshaw tag of today?.IMO she really was pure class..ATB Andy. Iknow some hares can give any lurcher a good run in the dark, my old Blaze my colliex grey who ive put up on here few times and knocked few over in the dark, but no way in the day., but he best quarry was foxes he loved them lol. Bryn my dog now will get loads of rabbits in the lamp, but not anything else , maybe he knows his limit's Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,327
No way were they day dogs Ray ..not for hares anyway ..they caught a few here and there,on occasions a couple but never regular it just wasn't their niche to be honest ...i'd bet that Bryn would kill plenty of other gear Ray on fields more suited to his type rather than big open land? But them bigger rabbits he seems to think if he aint got them in 2-3 turns he dont bother, strange aint it because i know he could if he really wanted to . Quote Link to post
