MINSHAW .....

Recommended Posts

sorry if this seems to be stretching out "the greyhound put to a minshaw line lurche", debate. But if the straight racing(or not) greyhound is put to the "lurcher", yes we'll gain some drive and pace back into the breeding. But what about some of the things the lurcher was bred for, retrieving, jumping, patience, the abilitly to learn as it goes through the time of a working animal. Now like i said before, bever seen the greyhound work in the field, so i'm asking that wouldn't you lose those fieldcraft skills that you "might" want. And with putting that drive and pace back in, you might also raise the chances of injury and shorten the working life.

I did say "might" want fieldcraft skills...as i am seeing that there are mentions of killing a lot of gear. To me, i like the dog to work out the quarry, do a catch and then do that retrieve.

Makes no difference how fast a dog is or quick it gets there if it aint strong enough to do the job when does get there. Ive seen 27/28 speed machines getting dragged around and thrown about like a rag doll because there not strong enough.

Its been and still is a great thread, even if max and joe said so cant agree. Nice to see the ideas behind the line and reason for, and not adding certain breeds............But ffs minshaw man take a chill pill and stop looking for daft challenges, if you want to challenge all and sundry do it via pm............

You leave Aaron alone !!! He's out on his skateboard looking for something called The Cornwall, he thinks it might be near The Roman Wall....... lyke !

Cheers.

   I'll never understand the matching mentality in general purpose lurchers, if you are happy with what you keep and aren't kennel blind then why do you give a f**k if some stranger sat behind a computer 250 miles away thinks your dogs are shit? How the f**k does his opinion mean anything?

I always thought that breeding a line back to pure blood dogs gave them a bit of a clean up so to speak. Strighten any faults that might of started to creep in like under or over shot jaws etc., I bred mine out to stright whippet after lot of line breeding and it's done no harm to my line of ours. Atb. Nick.

Why did you send the one back to the north east you had out of a greyhound bitch?

be honest jo im starting to wish I haddnt cause from what I hear. His starting to settle. But fair question. He was a f*****g loony.lol.everything I pointed him at he went 100 mph at and often did himself a mischief. One of the other problems I had with that dog was he was a picky eater an through his weight of in a night. I got round that by gentle road work, enough to make him hungry but not letting him on anything he could bust himself on.

Thats the type of Greyhound imo to use especialy to put back into a Coursing type line.

Fine Boned, Streamline not to Powerful From Staying Lines.

But well Bred and Mad Keen.

i hate to seem liek im picking on u max cos i agree with some of teh stuff u say..bu tadding that to a purpose bred coursing dog would lose wind desire and have more injuries ..i had a 1st x saluki greyhound yrs ago i matched it but he wasnt as good as a purpose bred dog cos he was getting injuries all time and i couldnt gethim fit

how long could they stay for its alot different staying for 3 mins once but staying for 5 mins 4 or 5 times is ano go for any greyhound on heavy black land..same as adding it to rabbitting dogs its ok when teh lands flat and perfect but when u running up dales mountains across heather rough ground ... we used to run catterick firing ranges my mate brough a greyhound one nite it had to be carried back to car after half hour.. and arent all greyhound s well bred with top breeding in them
