i agree andy you will get somthing out of a ghound put to most things, but i would still use the ghound that worked over the faster dog after all ghounds are free so you can try a few and see what you like. andy the older lines will have had pures that was tried and tested.

How many Bull's have seen anything? How many pure Saluki's have done alot? Collie's,Wheaton's,Malamute's,Alsation's and just about every other conceivable pure bred mutt that get's bred from these days?...a low percentage i'd bet?..bred back to a Greyhound or Whippet whether they have seen live stuff or not then you will get a dog capable of being some use as a lurcher imo? Yes or no? ATB Andy.

Andy Dons mother is a working collie, the bull in bigdaddylongchopper dogs was working stock, the saluki in the coursing dogs was probably ran on long ears.

Were going around in circles here because Max wont accept the fact I would rather use lurchers than pure greyhounds to get my pups.

I will put it thicko term's so max can understand it  if you had a decent lurcher bitch that was doing well in the field on your chosen quarry and ye decided ye wanted a pup out of her what would ye use ?? a greyhound because it was really fast around the track or a lurcher from a similar breeding that was also doing well on your chosen quarry was fast had gears and lasted a good shift :icon_eek:

great topic guys keep it going...........a wee question though..........if it's not thought the done thing to put a pure greyhound into the line, why put a pure collie in?
