Guest bigdaddylongchopper
i fancy you still need fast dogs frankel,if your game is raodin then from a motor it pays to have a bit of speed on your side, better to have and not need then need and not have.. Quote Link to post
BLACKWATER... 157
no you still need pacy dogs with wind localy if your out on a nite .but on more smaller feilds less pacy more guile as they dont run the same and have obstacles to slow them down thats were the colie cross or beddie first croses do well, Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,327
is there still a need to breed the speedy kind of dogs, or are more folk adapting with the times and returning to the collie and beddy x's? genuine question for folk to answer?? Well, with the way the hunting laws are these days and the shit that can come from it if you are careless or reckless enough to break that law i personally think that to play "safe" then the Collie curs and wee Beddy's are a great option?..Just my opinion though...ATB Andy. 1 Quote Link to post
bigdaz 688
I've seen fast greyhoundy type lurchers that hunt up mark holes and other aspects of lurcher work, IMO, a more suitable stud or dam than a full grey which may well be faster but has no other qualities to add. I've only ever known a couple of guys in a lot of years that have mated a proven good working line to a pure greyhound simply because the dogs were starting to look like curs/stocky or as I would call them workmanlike. I don't think the lines were ever improved but I suppose they were more pleasing to the eye, which brings me nicely onto the topic of showing, rarely if ever do you see a heavily built lurcher win shows as most people (judges included) equate greyhoundy shape with a working lurcher, this is I believe why most people who would breed to a greyhound do so Another quick point, the greyhound enthusiasts reel off the titles/wins of suitable studs, what is the actual difference between a great greyhound and say an average one ? ok if I was breeding from a grey and I had the choice of using a winner or a runnerup I'd use the winner but in the great scale of things would it actually make that much difference when added to a line lurcher to lurcher that had been bred for generations. Baz said earlier on here that even Vic Minshaw owned the dog at one time? Surely if it was that good it wouldn't of been passed around? What has it's latest owner got from the dog that others couldn't apart from the ££££ off stud fees lol?...just intrigued to know really?..ain't that fussed as like i said i know feck all about them just hear a lot of talk about the Buddy dog?...ATB Andy. frankel 2,123
i prefer a fast dog that can run slow.. i like a dog that uses its head... when on rabbits they don't clash themselves and goes up and down gears to pick them up, but on bigger game there like dynamite and end the course quick no pussy footing about!! sounds a bit like SWIFT i am talking about 1 Quote Link to post
karlsberg 319
heard good reports about buddy and bad reports... but hes left some good stock and in teh coursing game thats what its all about...maybe if his latest owner didnt have him he wouldnt have been heard about as much.. 1 Quote Link to post
