Just thinking back to the dogs of the line that came to this city, OBO, Traveller etc and the first I seen run, the one BMc brought down who's name escapes me(?) what light can you shed on them? OBOE'' was M.R dog from liverpool.. TRAVELER'' was J.F dog also from liverpool.. NIGGER'' also ended up in liverpool to with JMc... nigger was the father to the MICKY'' dog that was here' think JMc kept MICKYS litter brother a dog called NODGGER'' A.S from round these parts also owned a good' MINSHAW cross n i think it was called NIPPER'' but i remember M.R teling me he had a beter minshaw dog than OBOE'' at first a dog called JACK'' witch i think he got off minshaw himself... hope the info helps... .ATB..B It's still the best thred on this site and long may it continue! I got nicked with BMc's son when he had the dog out an B came to the station to get his lad, the dog was in kennels and an indian desk seargent asked the name of the dog and 'got it' loud, with a scowl..! Been out with a few of Obo and Travellers offspring too, a few dogs off 'em both around the Farm, some were very good, Legsys and Huffys were two crackers and Ness, a bitch MR bought back, she was Obo to a bull bred bitch. My old bitch could knock spots off Huffys bitch on bunnys but on hares.. not a chance! Seen that bitch kill 8 on Altcar after some good running on the dunes and those hares really did know what a lamp was! Like I sad my old bitch Fawn was good enough, bred out of Ness to a good fox killing collie cross called Tyson. Took some good bunny bags and killed hares both day and night well enough. On Altcar on the lamp her best was 5 but she got into double figures over the border a good few times. Though I've always been an opportunist and there was rabbits in the bag too on those nights. I never seen Micky run but I've never heard a bad word said about him nor the stuff out of him. I even owned one.. for half a night.. when it thrashed my timid bitch in the back of the motor half way up the M6 and went straight back..!! The last dog out of Micky I seen run was Mick, owned by MQ. He was in his dotage then but still put up a damn good show. Quote Link to post

BLACKWATER... 157 Posted June 4, 2012 Report Share Posted June 4, 2012 (edited) after reading about all these dogs i believe alot is a selling piont or for a book or something as an adult man wouldnt talk 90 odd pages for nothing a clever one anyway, i no lads from liverpool joe tony who have had dealings with minshaws the says nothing specail about them , as for the brick heel wait till the cows come home ,to get them out the dales ,i dont think poachers hunters hard at the game need to flaunt lots of pics for nothing, as people get to know who has decent dogs or not ,ive never been kennel blind and always look for better ,and to go on about a hundred pages is like the beano at times lots to talk about but nothing inbetween , i no its summer and some get bored but summer is the time to get out make afew bucks get away from the comp and train your pups a bit , mark brick can be an eejit but he is a working dog man who wares it on his sleeve ,just like any other dog man and if he waists young dogs well heel learn the hard way there all diffrent , if i was serous into catching rabbs wouldnt go further than the collie grew type lurcher that i had years ago , or the big strong beardie type of m c glenn years ago , no need for hundreds of pages , and if you want a hare dog there dogs about like buddies line some my old mates dogs who both one coursing comps , no need to breed lots of dogs to get a few good ones at times,the easyies way i got allround dogs was bred best coursing dog to best lurcher bitch worked out easy no need for lots of colie to collie it wastes a good dog at times, been an intresting thread but the days are long gone, i like traveler swift and a few others got a dog in my kennel same stamp as traveler maybe quicker but i ;like a strong fast dog a good single handed dog , all the best but keep it simple and only breed of treid stock names or no names and see you soon down carlile god willing shortly Edited June 4, 2012 by BLACKWATER... It shows that lines can be kept with people who, like yourself, value a good animal and constantly strive to keep those qualitys alive. In a world of easy come, easy go lurchers, there is much to admire here. Yep, the summer is downtime for most, time to take stock and channel efforts elsewere but on this site this thred has really entertained. As for Joe, if your talking about Travellers owner, I've never heard him say the dog, or Minshaws were nothing special and thought he was also keeping the blood running through his present dogs. Lets face it, Andy has been the first to admit not all make the grade and with my own eyes, i've seen dogs direct off Vic that came here that I wouldn't give kennel space to. Just a question, if this thred has been like the Beano and as you say, has nothing inbetween, what would YOU like to see as infill? Quote Link to post
