FUJI 17,288
Only down side of such a fantastic post, is that there will probably be umpteen litters on done deal / gumtree etc, sold as 'minshaws', (collie/grey x saluki/grey ) exept i suppose, that they will be able to quote the lineage now Buyer beware There will certainly be other dogs around the country that carry the Minshaw tag Jai and obviously some will be genuine people selling pups but then like you say there will be the ££££ grabbers...i'd advise people to be careful if they are interested in getting one of this type (although for what good they are i wouldn't bother) ..i already know of people saying they have littermates to the Don dog lol...and a dog beast at that...NOT a chance is there one on this side of the Irish Sea,people saying they have dogs bred out of Jack..yes there are but not pups..impossible he's dead!! Like Jai said...be on your guard if the selling pages become overcrowded with litters all saying they are out of this and that? Do your homework guys ..ATB Andy. 2 Quote Link to post

This has to be the best thread I have ever read on dogs on THL. Not just because of the numbers and variety of game that the dogs have taken. It is more a complete "warts an all" honest thread, there is no bragging just good old honesty. I take my hat off to PP22 and all the people like him, they have a special type of dedication that not many people have. Thank you. TC 4 Quote Link to post

ferret features 289
Vic Minshaw always states that the first dog which started this strain was Rip who was bred from along the lines of his fathers lines of racing whippets,he was basically a "mooching" dog, standing barely 21 inch,he was capable of killing daytime hares, tackling a fox, rabbits, pheasants but what he loved doing as much as anything was taking ducks off the local river or even the local Gamekeeper's ponds.I have also told this story of Rip,but i will tell it once more for those who don't know?.Vic Minshaw was a known poacher in the main and the local Gamekeeper who was known as Mad Michael had a tunnel view vendetta towards him,as he was picking up bits and pieces of tales about Vic and his dog regularly poaching his land.On one occasion Mad Michael even had the audacity to stop Vic in a nearby village when Vic was passing through on his motorbike,he filled Vic in,in the middle of the road and when a passer-by came to Vic's aid,he too got a good kicking. Not to be outdone Vic and Rip continued their assault on Mad Michael's ground and on this day, were treking over his fields again when they passed one of the ponds which always held a few ducks, the old dog when into his later years entered the pond,to do what he had always done..catch ducks!!.The keeper had been watching Vic crossing his land and hid himself close to the pond knowing exactly where he and Rip would be heading? Hiding in the wood edge close to the pond he waited until Rip entered the pond and Vic standing close by he then let two barrels go from his shotgun!,instinctively Vic was off,no sign of Rip as he ran back towards his home,he went home expecting to be greeted by Rip but he wasn't there?,he returned to the pond via his original route later that day and still no sign again. He searched high and low until two days later a letter arrived with photo's in,showing Rip dead, and one even showed that his legs and head had been cut off!!.Vic took this lunatic to court but the keeper got away with that and even told him that he had Rips feet turned into poker stands while awaiting to go into court..He is still the Gamekeeper to this very day albeit helped by his sons, and the name he was given many years ago still sticks with him,Mad Michael....another travesty for this dog Rip probably the creator of this strain?.ATB Andy any body ever do jail over this cxxt. derbylad1 293
Well Xena wont be carrying on the lineage. Unfortuntly she is gonna be spayed tomorrow as she has had 3 phantom pregancies now. Last time(in september) she would run at rabbits and wouldn't pick up,seemed like she was restricted. Soon as it passed, then back to brilliance. Again(this week), she wasn't herself and not running well(sluggish) so took her to the vets. The vet said it might cause other complications...so off to vets in the morning....gutted!!! To be honest, it might be for the best, if Xena isn't right 9 weeks after her season and this lasts for a few weeks then i'm happy to get her done. Pups are always out there, and Xena's health comes first!!1 1 Quote Link to post

No pup for me until Xena is at least 5-6 years old. Although saying that, my old faithful Coco has gone into retirement. Same day i took Xena into vets, i also found that Coco's arthritus in her toe is too bad to carry on running her hard. Just ferreting and mooching from now on. another reason to be gutted!!!
