poacher3161 1,766
Im not doubting that he was used in the breeding of several top coursing lurchers , but can someone please explain to me how a dog who still holds the record for races won , and they were all top quality races , whose owner turned down 100k for him in the early 80s ,came to be used on saluki / lurcher bitches . His trainer , George Curtis even had 24hr security on his kennel ,I saw him run , live , several times , his pace and stamina were superb , if I remember right his owner was a businessman who didnt need the cash , hence he never sold him , so Im interested in how he , and by who , did he get into the lurcher circles . To my knowledge he was only used once over a saluki. didnt geoff spur own angie at the time .darren gallagher can tell the story if hes on here I only got told the story from lads who knew the lad who had the sister to beany then ended up with beany. Good Man 196
My advice to anyone contemplateing Greyhound blood for their lurcher line. Stay away from sprinters and use a Top Class Open Staying Dog with Breeding to back it up. Quote Link to post

BLACKWATER... 157
max very true about staying greyhounds , done it my self my old mucher d slieght had a bitch winning distance races 1200 yard he bred it to boy blue i got a bitch pup i never run her out i bred her to a good saluki cross bred down from brother to red the dogs are 3 past , and can all stay even tho they are not to saluki looking but go up the gears plus can blast to get up there, a distance grey has more than enough pace for qaurry not into over muscled sprinters they wouldnt last long im afraid Edited May 17, 2012 by BLACKWATER... 1 Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
My advice to anyone contemplateing Greyhound blood for their lurcher line. Stay away from sprinters and use a Top Class Open Staying Dog with Breeding to back it up. surely a sprinter (maybe up to 325m) is going to get on terms with quarry quicker then the rest of the lurcher (the saluki, collie etc) will take over, also conditioning for stamina imo would help a sprinter more than conditioning a stayer for speed ALL Greyhounds will put enough pace into a Lurcher. Breed to Sprinty types that are fooked after running 260m and you run a Greater risk of producing lurchers that will tye up and maybe suffer accidosis. Use types that could get 720m plus in the Best company around at the top , these types can start and stay . Any suggestions for a stud dog Max? Did you have one in mind? :tongue2: Quote Link to post
