zigzag dan 784
Im not doubting that he was used in the breeding of several top coursing lurchers , but can someone please explain to me how a dog who still holds the record for races won , and they were all top quality races , whose owner turned down 100k for him in the early 80s ,came to be used on saluki / lurcher bitches . His trainer , George Curtis even had 24hr security on his kennel ,I saw him run , live , several times , his pace and stamina were superb , if I remember right his owner was a businessman who didnt need the cash , hence he never sold him , so Im interested in how he , and by who , did he get into the lurcher circles . macca 83
id say its easier then thought, any man and hes dog (excuse the pun) can take hes greyhound or lurcher to any Derby winner or top class stud dog for a fee and not that dear really so even though the owner might have been loaded hes dog would of be up for stud duties after retirement and at the end of the day a stud is a stud be it greyhound or lurcher 2 Quote Link to post

To my knowledge he was only used once over a saluki. Quote Link to post

birddog 1,354
my buddy whip / grey's computer is not well so he's been on the phone to me re this topic, according to him a few of the coursing guys at the time 'bob' was racing went to his father 'ballyheigue moon' in order to get the bloodlines, so maybe this is where the confusion comes from Quote Link to post

FUJI 17,328
Ballyregan Bob never produced a pup in the greyhound circle anyway that was within a light year of himself so i'd of been amazed if he threw anything of significance when producing lurchers? ATB Andy. Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Strange thing Genetics, Ballyregan Bob and his famous rival, Scurlogue Champ, apparently they were both a let down at stud, One of the great stud greats Monalee champion, was not a top class racer, i think he won opens, but no big stuff. 1 Quote Link to post
chartpolski 25,052
I wonder if any one got a line from Shasi, the last Waterloo Cup Winner, with a Lurcher or Saluki ? Cheers. Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Its not as easy as that, in Greyhound breeding, a lot of Sprinters produced stayers or distance dogs, and vice versa, and stayers producing mainly sprinters. Quote Link to post
