when would it be ok to disturb the nest , i know there is at least one dead kit :( in there and i,d like to remove it or should i just leave well alone .

In my limited experience, i have been told the following.

Handling the kitts depends on your relationship to your jill, does she trust you. if not sure, leave handling the kitts for a week or two.

Handling the mother outside of the nesting compartment should be ok, play it as you see it, if shes uneasy leave her alone.

Cleaning out the main compartment should be ok.

As for removing the dead kitt, i cant comment on that, maybe the mother will sort it out, let nature take control.

Personally i would leave her to it, she may bring any dead kits into the run part, you can remove them from there, clean her latrine area as normal & to up food as needed, you could give her some lactol if you wish :)

thanks to you both -- tell me what is the lactol for .

the dead kitt is still in the nest as no sign of it in the run etc .

mum seems ok when i feed her , curious as ever , but she does look a bit knackered and poor condition

poor thing , sounds soft but i love her to bits and dont wont to loose her .
