Guest The Big Fish
A freindly piece of advise IF you aint in a "good" gamekeeping job already, it wont matter if you go to college or not, its a simple fact of life that its not what you know, but who you know, these days. The good jobs just arent available anymore, all you will be left with, is a run down shoot, that no one wants to spend any money on and those that have the say will expect miracles to happen over night, which is simply impossible. Dont get me wrong, the way of life and the job is great, but if your serious about how and what you do in life, then gamekeeping is lost cause... Quote Link to post
poshboy 0
im at sparsholt college in winchester studying game and wildlife management at the moment. bloody love it. like has already been said, its not a job, its a way of life so the money aspect does not come in it. although i already have quite alot of keepering experience, ive come to college to learn about all the other apects such as woodland ecology, fishery management and to get my DSC1. go do a college course mate, social side is ace too james Why did you go to Sparsholt all the way from Oxfordshire? I went to Hartpury....Mind you that was a bundle of bollocks because there is no other colleges like that near me and sparsholt is the best for gamekeeping. im living in at college so travelling isnt an issue. it only takes me about 50 minutes to get from oxford to winchester anyway and only come home every 2 weeks. Have 2 agree wit young airgunner, i done 2 years at spaersholt collage, nd it was the best thing i ever did. i would recommend [NO TEXT TALK] looking at taking up keepering 2 have a look at sparsholt as it does give u a great platform 2 start frm. james Quote Link to post

Hob&Jill 258
I am doing countryside and enviroment management at college at the moment and f*****g loving it Although it isnt a gamekeeping course there is a much higher chance of getting a job after and you still get to work in the countryside. I work at a fishery and get to talk to alot of folk and the ammount of people going to do or are doing the Fisheries course at sparsholt is unreal. There are not enough jobs available to sustain it all. sam ewith gamekeeping I suppose.... ATB, H&J Quote Link to post

farmer-alex 0
I have been very lucky, and I actually work part time at a local estate with a GameKeeper. He teaches me first hand what to do and all about Keepering. Im only 14, but dont go to School. So spend 3days up the estate. He has actually advised me not to go to College.. And I would much rather learn GameKeeping the good old traditional way, from an older experienced person. Just Remember.. While looking through Shooting Times or any other Shoot mag.. Look at the Job Ads. All the Keepering Jobs ask for EXPERIENCE over college courses. But that depends on whether you are lucky enough to get experience from a Keeper. Good Luck anyways. youngairgunner 0
the idea of going to college is to further your gamekeeping experience with all the different aspects including deer management. i worked full time on an estate before going to college. nowadays it is all about having that bit of paper. plus college is a right laugh and i love it. your only young once Quote Link to post
