Snifferboy 659
Evening all, I have just picked up a second hand Daystate air ranger and I have just put a new scope on it. I have zeroed it in but I'm struggling to get good grouping using Bisley Magnum pellets at any distance over 15 yards. Just the odd one or two spin right off. I also have found that the pellets sometimes jam a bit when I'm pushing the bolt back in, I think this scores/dent the front of the pellet and may possibly be causing the problem? I haven't got a clue really and was wondering what pellets in .177 any one else uses with this gun and whether anyone else has any tricks up their sleeve with the jamming magazine/pellet/bolt problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm a bit disappointed really! I had high hopes for this gun and it's taken god knows how many years to actually get one! All the best, Sniffer Quote Link to post
Lewis Ste 245
Try top brands like rws super fields, jsb exacts, airarms field Diablo, accupel (crosman premier), falcon accuracy plus. Not every pellets is going to suit your barrel. Shop around until you find one your happy with, stick with it until it stops performing and try something else Lewis Quote Link to post
mikeyblue 28
Hi Sniffer, As you have brought it second hand I would give the barrel a good pull through just as a piece of mind. Thing with Bis Mags they are quite a long pellet and may be getting damaged as the mag cycles. I used to have a Daystate MK3 .177 (same barrel as Air Ranger) and it loved JSB Exact 8.4gn 4.52. Pellet on pellet all day long. Hope this helps. Mikey. Quote Link to post
Snifferboy 659
Thanks guys, Mikey what do you mean by pull through? I take it clean the barrel? Cheers Sniffer Quote Link to post
mikeyblue 28
Hi Sniffer, Yeah clean the barrel. I brought my R10 secondhand, and was all excited only to fing it was grouping like a shotgun. I pulled it through and the barrel was mingin, could of grown potatoes in it! Re-leaded the barrel with about 50 shots and it was printing fantastic groups. I now clean the barrel when I can see the groups opening slightly. Im almost certain a clean barrel and some JSB Exacts, and your rifle will be pellet on pellet mate. Failing that try the single shot tray instead of the mag. If your mag isnt indexing properly it may be damaging the pellet causing it to not group properly. Also if there is a silencer fitted it could be clipping so try removing it if the above fails. Also check scope mounts are not loose. Hope this helps mate, its all a process of elimination!! Mikey. Edited May 14, 2012 by mikeyblue Quote Link to post

AR177 588
Hi sniffer, I have an Air ranger in 177, here are my findings with regards to pellets I have just tested mine with Dynamic pcp, RWS Super Field, JSB Exacts, AA Diablo, Accupel, Rangemaster Li, Range Right Exterminator (new name for logun penetrators) and a few others the Dynamic and the Logun are similar being long with mushroom heads the RWS super-field, JSB, AA diablo are similar with the classic pellet shape, thinner skirt and shorter the rangemaster Li and the accupels are very similar to the crossman premier, short squat pellets with the skirts partly filled in, and a thicker skirt I had a few indexing problems with the JSB / AA diablo type, i think my magazine O ring is a bit tired and as it moved the pellets moved forward and would snag often crushing the pellet skirt and misshaping it with the longer pellets its like trying to drive a square peg into a round hole! the Dynamic PCP ones especially, although they come out the other end very well My top 3 are the Rangemaster Li, JSB exacts & Dynamic PCP as at 35yards i have got groups less than a 5p with them - i dont think you would go wrong with any of them i have chosen to go with the Dynamic PCP, they shoot well and hit like a flying house brick! the rest i find are just average or they damage too easily and i end up throwing 1/4 of a tin away due to misshapes. the worst were the exterminators awful!!. Hope this helps in some way. ATB Adam Quote Link to post
robwelsh 354
My huntsman loves 4.52 jsbs..I tried bisleys in it, crap, crosmans, crap, rws superdomes were good, but sometimes abit of force was need to put bolt forward..get some jsbs 4.52 an go from there..I think headsize is crucial..all other pellets were 4.50 4.51, an had problems, get 4.52 or 4.53 mate Atb Quote Link to post
